Could be buying 1980 280zx
I found a sweet deal on one of these bad boys, owned down south, never seen a NEw england winter or the rust that it brings.
it has 146k on it and only has 2 minor spots on the body with surface rust.
price is negotiable at 2500.
What do you guys think? Should I buy it for a restore/resell project, or just get it for a weekend fun car in the summer?

I had a '79 way back in the day and I really enjoyed it. That motor really perks up with a bigger throttle body, header and exhaust. Even more hp available if you can find a custom cam grind for it.

I saw a mint black/gold 280z turbo on the 405N the other day. Older man was driving it, I was jealous. He was probably the original owner.

I wouldnt try restoring it if theres already rust showing. Its too much of a headache to remove all the rust spots.
I mean thats just the rust that you can see. Wait till you tear it down and find much more.
Buy it if you just want a summer car to toy around in.

Rust is like an iceberg... you only are going to see the top 10%, the other 90% will be hidden underneath. So you can get into a big hassle if you discover more rust when you start to try to adress the rust issues...
If you're only looking to drive it and resell after a short time, then it really doesn't matter, but if you're looking to keep it long term, it's probably best to save more and get a true rust free example...
Also, on that particular car, it's got a blue interior and blue interior peices are hard to come by. Make sure the interior peices are complete (is the drivers door panel missing ?), or be prepared for a long search of having to use some plastic paint on a non-blue interior peice to make it match. I'd never buy a old car with a blue interior Black is best.

Ah, talked to the seller, it is street legal. Suite.
But I won't have money for something like that until I get rid of my CL. bahh. He's trying to get around $5,000 for it.
and I don't know if I want to pay that much for something completely gutted.
