CooperS vs MX-5?
Hey guys,
To make a long story short,My wife's ML500 lease is almost over(last payement)and now that she has her new audi,(soon) she wants a fun car.(My time will arrive soon enough)Her main choice is a slightly used drop-top Mini CooperS but she said the MX-5 would be an open option too.I'm ok with this and my choice is the Mini Cooper.Keep in mind I will be driving this too so the MX is kinda of a highly stereotyped car(great car). Are there any major issues with the last generation. We feel the older one looks better and may be is more reliable. My maximum budge is 30K canadian dollars. So any problems or concerns?Very possible this becomes her daily driver for summer too. Can't wait to install that Aero kit for it.Thanks in advance.

And if you're looking for a fun car to drive, the MX-5 with its light weight and RWD is hard to beat.

The 3rd gen miatas are a better car in almost every way, especially safety and the power hardtop option. But yeah, I wouldn't take one over an S2000; it's just ... bland? ugly? I don't know what to call it ...

ask if she'll like the sporty suspension on cooper.. my wife drove with her friend who has a cooper_s, and she didn't enjoy the bumpy ride.
i concur about the new miata's, they look bulky and heavy to me.

They really are great cars to drive, but make sure you wife can take the driving experience. They aren't exactly cushy to ride in.

The Cooper S has a rough ride.
If you are going to get a vert...get the MX5....otherwise the Cooper S hardtop FTW.

Mini Cooper S JCW ftw
Has more power than a regular S and is simply is a blast to drive. And it's not like they have poor resale value or anything, but you're better off buying one used, its supposed to be around $6,000 for the JCW kit new. I think it might be worth it for $3,500-4,000 new but again that's up to you. My brother doesn't even drive his MR2 Turbo much anymore, he prefers to drive his fiancee's JCW, heh.
And the Miata has always been RWD.
