Alright, all of you know my name for owners of English cars - "pedestrians" or " perpetual loaner drivers."
So I stopped by the local Jaguar dealer to look at the new XF. There were two on the floor- both black, one w/parchment interior and one supercharged with the black/CF interior.
The supercharged had the nicer looking (as well as bigger, deeper) wheels, but I liked the parchment interior...
No, I haven't driven either yet, but am looking at potential replacements for my TL, which has less than 40K on it. I write off a good amount on the TL lease, but like it enough to buy it out absent a much more appealing car within reason, i.e. my dear wife will dismember me if I come home with an Aston Martin DBS, which is unaffordable anyway.
So, the XF is a Jaguar in its first year of production. My brain says
but my heart says
.
Convince me a Jag XF is a bad idea...

Not yet. The XF = 4-door sedan for mid $50s.
Mid-life crisis = DBS, Ferrari or Cadillac XLR.
Short, out-of-shape & balding??
And you're not helping!
You're not helping either, dammit!!
Check with my wife....
Hmm... I wonder what lease rates are on an XF... :goestocheckleasesites:

It's fugly. I've never liked the look of Jaguar, I don't care what they put in it.

DON'T DO IT!
It's really funny...cuz...we'd just nominated you to become a new Mod in Car Talk... But buy it, and...well....
Sorry.

Need is an interesting choice of words.
I really like the new Jags. I'd gladly drive a XKR if I could afford one. I think the XF is a great looking car with presence that far exceeds its price range.

Hot car.... I love it.
That said... stay away b/c the odds are you'll be in a loaner more then your own car. My wife's boss has an XKR and that thing is pure sex... but he always has something wrong with it.
Jag is kind of like Range Rover... sexy to look at... not so much fun to own. But hey, it's your money and time... get what you want

Go look at what 2-3 year old Jags are fetching in the used market, keeping in mind what asking price was when they were new.
Depreciation on those is a bitch.

I forgot all about the depreciation aspect, esp. since the X-type and S-type are no longer with us.

I'm only going to test drive one next weekend to satiate my curiousity, and NOT because I'm getting one, OK??!
Man, i dunno that XF is pure sex..
i mean seriously, someone parked their XF in a showroom and all of a sudden this happens

Why WOULDN'T you get one? Plus, I bet they've all got sexy english accents too

Buying one of these will be an expensive idea if you only plan to keep it 2-3 years.
If you do pull the trigger on this one, I highly recommend sticking with the leasing route. Let Jaguar financial worry about what it is worth in 3 years instead of you worrying.

Regarding loaner cars-it really depends on the dealer. Our dealer gives out XJ's as loaners.
Oh, and buy one you will love it-I love mine

On the performance side, it is a lot cheaper than the M5 or MB. And it out powers Infiniti or Lexus.
If I had to dump that much cash into a car I would go for a 5 Series or RS4.

I can write off a part of a lease cost since I use my car for non-commuting business purposes.
When I've owned cars, I've kept them 5+ years (as I'm the mirror of
)The supercharged has nice looking wheels, and the cooled seats.
I was thinking about this last night and this morning- the Lux and Premium XF have the same performance as my TL, due to the weight of the car. That means that I would need to get the supercharged XF for an improvement in performance...

By the way, you're not helping either, although I wouldn't have to explain your car photos to the wife like I would with agranado's pick.
At least I don't have to look at a photo of the Champagne interior. :sigh:

As for the Jag, they are known for their issues, and little has changed. The example I posted above is just one... I know/knew several people with Jags and they all had tons of issues with them.
Plus, every time I see the car from the front (headlights and grille) I think it's a Chrysler until I can see more of it.
hehe. Actually, not one person did. We did our research and knew that the Audi's completely turned their reliability issues around and we ended up never having problems.

Those are in line with my issues with the car.
