Well probably not what you are thinking, but anyways. I stopped in at the BMW dealership in Greensboro, NC to look at my friends new 325 he ordered. I got to talking with the sales guy and he asked what kind I drove and of course I said, "something faster than this" He smirked and said what and replied a CL-S 6 speed. He comes back with well I could beat you any day in this 325.....I laughed, so did my girlfriend, and said no way. Unfortunately I wasnt in my car at the time, so I couldnt take him up on his challenge, but I was thinking about stopping back in there one day to see if he would actually try to race.

Just wondering if you guys think I should even bother. Ive raced some 330's already and beaten them pretty badly, but should I go back in there and hand him his ass????

My G-friend has a new 330i , my CLs will smoke it , however, her's does handle better with AWD and wider tires, but it rides like a tank too.

 

I vote that NateBoozer and Zootking go back there, tag team this guy one on each side down a 3 lane and DOUBLY HAND HIM HIS ASS!!

Purely 0-60, your CL-S M/T will beat a 325i sedan M/T by close to a full second. But if you put it into some heavy twisties it might get a little more interesting...

I think a stock cl-s vs a stock 330ci-stick...would be a pretty close race.....not to sure bout the beat them badly thing.

Hehe, yup. Your little brother over here (J30A1), definitely beat a 325i. 1st gears are similar, but after 50mph, its over. I pull and don't stop pulling on it.

I've also beaten the old 328i's, but those were close.

 

i have the july issue of the car and driver here and they are comparing the 3.2 cl-s 6-speed w/ the bmw 330 ci

now, i'm strickly speaking from the stat they posted. Don't kill the messager now.

0-60: CL- 5.9 sec 330ci-5.8 sec
0-100: 15.2 sec 15.5 sec
0-130: 31.0 sec 31.5 sec

1/4 mile: 14.6@98mph 14.4@97mph

I dunno, it seems pretty close...

They are pretty even actually. Depends on a number of factors. I would say either stick vs stick or auto vs auto is a toss up

 

Stick vs stick the cl-s wins
stick vs auto the 330w/stick wins
auto vs auto the cl-s wins


On a side note...i love BMW's...im going to be getting one within a few months.Why would they throw a 2.5 liter 184 hp engine into such a beautiful machine as the 325.I say BMW should follow Acuras footsteps and throw a 3.2liter 225 horsepower engine into the 325 and a 260hp 3.2liter into the 330...that my friends is when the competition is beat.But then again adding new engines would mean upping the price and the over priced stickers on these cars is bad enough.I guess ill just cry in my seat when a civic with exhaust smokes my soon to be 325Ci .....oh well maybe ill save enough $ to get a 330

 

OK so im magazine racing... but when did a stock CLS auto do 14.4 in the 1/4?? Or even come close to 5.8, 0-60?? :P

That's actually why they call it a 325 because it's a 3 series with a 2.5 liter engine. Same with the 330, 3.0 liter engine that produces 225hp. They're basically the same car otherwise. As far as 260hp, BMW did throw a 3.2 liter engine into the 325/330 but they squeezed 333hp out of it and they called it M3. I don't know who should be following who. Maybe Acura will comeback with more hp per liter. After all, Honda did make 240hp out of 2 liters for the S2000.
I'm not trying to sound like a smart ass jerk. I just think you should be prepared when you go in to buy that BMW. And I'll be jealous when I'm still driving my 98 2.3cl.
...unless you get an automatic.

330 and CLS are both awesome cars and pretty even when compared stick vs stick or auto vs auto.
