Close call at RxR crossing

On my way home from work yesterday the lights at a RxR crossing start flashing and the arms start coming down. A minivan that was in front of me, that I noticed had been driving pretty aggressively prior, tries to make it through the crossing with the lights flashing but doesn't make it. The minivan tries backing up but the RxR crossing arm comes down on the top of his van and traps him. Seconds latter the train goes rushing past inches from his van. I snapped a pic with the camera on my phone.

He must've crapped his pants! It was so close I thought for sure he was getting hit. The car that was behind the minivan had backed up, probably thinking the van was getting hit and wanting to avoid the crash. It was damn close! The guy was a fool. Don't try to make it under the RxR crossing arms when they are coming down!

When the train passed and the arms went up, freeing him, he wasn't driving aggressively any more.

It's idiots like him that gets everyone in trouble. I stopped for a railroad crossing one time and the a-hole behind me was honking me to run through it.

What an idiot. I would have crapped my pants.

A few years ago a 16 y/o girl that lives in my town was hit by a train. Fucked her up pretty good. She's lucky to even be alive. There's a little about it on this page: http://www.lawcore.com/legal-information/08-15-05.html

Fortunately he didn't have kids strapped into the back otherwise I might of had to give him a beat down.

Happens all the time here. We have a main set of tracks the Amtrak & the south FL tri rail use. I see idiots trying to beat the arms all the time. Then you have the other idiots that don't stop before the arms in traffic & just sit STOPPED ON THE TRACKS or under where the arms would come down waiting for the traffic in front of them to go.

What do you think you would do in the same situation?

After watching this guy at the tracks I thought about what I would do. I know for sure I wouldn't have sat there like an idiot. Notice his backup lights aren't on? He was backing up but then the arm came down and hit the top of his van with a loud "Whack" so he stopped and he just froze there. I would've just keep backing up. I mean it's life or death here. The train could've caught the corner of his van and dragged him and his car down the tracks.

I would have moved, regardless of the crossing arm, whatever. Trains are messy business
