Didn't I Hate Cars prove once in the 3G forum that the transmissions in them were actually pretty decent.

And I mean, it's 80,000+ miles. You're in the time frame where shit starts to happen.

You should check into whether the statutes of limitation would time bar a lawsuit for a 7-10 year-old car.

There are a few threads on transmission failures in the 3G TL forum, including one regarding a potential class action.

Welcome to AZ.

IIRC, the issue was the temps from the friction modifiers used in the Honda ATF.

Hard-ware wise, there was a work-around oil jet install and then a manufacturing change from late-2004 onwards. Honda also changed its ATF formulation from the prior Z1 to the current DW1.

Statistically, IDK if the 5AT failure rate on the '05-'06 TL is higher than for any non-J-series car with an auto trans-- some transmissions for every vehicle will be defective due to problems in materials, manufacturing or assembly which can't be controlled by the manufacturer.
