The CL-S vs. BMW 328 Article

I remember there was an article in either Motor Trend or Road & Track that compared the two cars and gave the CL-S the big thumbs up over its German counterpart...Anyone know where I can find that article? Gracias!

It's in MT's July '00 issue. Go check it out in your local library.

Yup, MotorTrend July '00...

It has a picture of two modified Mustangs on the cover... a red one and a blue one.

It's also in Motor Trend's year end "best of" edition.

Last month's MotorTrend also had a comparison between the BMW 330ci and the Type-S. They liked the Bimmer more because it had rear wheel drive, was more "communicative" and a manual transmission. However, it was a narrow margin of victory.

But considering the many thousands of dollars difference between the two, I think many people would pick the Type-S. If only more people knew...

January 2001 issue of R&T also has a "Sports Coupe Comparison: of the 330Ci vs a CLS. Hey not bad we come in second.

But oh my how sexy can a car get. The cover has a Modena charging against the Maranello. I'll take one in yellow and the other in yellow.

Hmmm, given the various comparison tests, you wonder how well the 330ci would have done vs. the Acura with:

1. The BMW with an automatic gear box.
2. The BMW without the wide wheels *and* all season tires.

Now compare the BMW 330CI with the auto (with its added wheel/tire package) against the Acura with some really nice ultra-performance tires (Toyos T1S, RE-730s, S02, on stock wheels but in 225/45zr17 or 235/45zr17).

I am quite sure that 2 point lead would have been in the Acura's favor *and* still save $$$.

And if they deduct the 2,000 dollar price of the Acura’s NAV system, it would widen the price gap.

Unfortunately Road & Track rated the new BMW 330i better than the Acura 3.2 CL S-Type. Of course the BMW costs more upfront and down the road...but let's face it...it is the ultimate driving machine.
