CL-S Trade in?
Ok, i know im gonna get bashed for this BUT, ive been thinking about trading in my CL for a Rsx Type S... the reason for it is because my cl is a bitch on gas. monthly i put about 250.00 or more in gas and thats more than my car note lol...
i know going to a Rsx is taking a step down, but i just cant handle the damn gas for this car, its annoying already... and the other thing that's scaring me are these tranny's (not guy girls) lol... but i have about 86,000 and my warranty is up at 100,000 and i dont want to take a chance of the trans blowing out on my after 100,000 and either have to get a rebuilt/new/used tranny...
tell me what you guys would do about this situation???
just would like to hear other people's

if you really think your gas change is going to be a noticeable difference in order to change cars, I think you may need to re-evaluate the situation.

Totally not worth it. Like CLpower said... the cost savings won't be worth the hit you'll take on the CL.
If you're paying $250/month... $50 tank... 5 tanks.
So you're going to save $25 a month and downgrade your car (not to mention get virtually nothing for it).
What kind of mileage are you experiencing now?

I dunno if you'll save any gas...
Look at the MPG specs for the RSX 6MT Type-S and the 5AT base. The automatic has a higher MPG rating in city AND highway.
My TL-S is at the dealer (for a new tranny ). Anyway I'm given a TSX as a loaner. I drive it just like I drive my car. They both have a 17 gal gas tank. After my first week with it, I noticed the TSX uses more gas than my TL. And it is mainly because any cruise speed in the TL is always at a lower RPM than the TSX. Also, the TSX has no low-end torque, so I have to rev it more to get going.

I get about 22 in the city and almost 30 on the highway.
For a ~3,600lb car with a 260hp - V6 I think that's pretty good.
And that's in the 6-speed which has much shorter gearing than the automatic.

I did the math, the last time this came up... I was thinking about getting a civic, but it's just not worth it to me to save a couple of hundred bucks a year... RSX requires premium too, right??
Lets do the math...
For the average driver, who drives 12,500 miles a year, and lets say the average CL gets 22mpg, that's 568.18 gallons needed for the year...
Now, if you buy the RSX, and it gets 28 mpg....
12500/28 = 446.43 gallons needed per year... 122 gallons saved.... $3 a gallon, you would save $365 a year...
So you'd save a buck a day
edit: Sounds like you do a bit more driving then me, so you can adjust the figures to figure out your savings...

my car gets horrible gas mileage, i filled up on friday and im gonna have to put gas tomorrow or thursday...
i know im not going to save on a Fill up due to the gas tank size, but i know the gas would last alot longer when i fill up with a rsx/civic...

good luck w/ that
01-02's out here are going for around 6-8K at auction (Type S's with similiar mileage). Hopefully you've got a stronger market.

i just hope he's not trying to lie about the trade in amount, that would be fucked up, and ill just end up keeping the car, im not gonna take a hit like that

The RSX isnt the car to get if you want to save on gas.
Trading b/c of the tranny doesnt make financial sense either, since a) youre still under warranty for another year b) even if the transmission goes after that, it can be replaced.
If you want a new car, then just say you do and do it. But dont do it thinking you'll be in any better financial shape afterwards.

im thinking about holding on to my car until another 8,000 -10,000 miles...
if the transmission goes after 100,000 i can still get it replaced? how? would the dealer still cover it?
im not worried about "financial shape" its just annoying to me having to put sooo much damn gas in this car...they're might just be something wrong with my car i dunno...
and if i was going to get a new car for pleasure ill just get the g35 or 350z...

609, maybe something is wrong with your car because I do a mix of city & highway driving and I average about 25mpg in my Type S. IMHO, you'd be hard pressed to get better than that period. In fact, I'm not looking forward to my fuel costs when I get the Jeep but hey, gas prices aren't going to get any better and they certainly aren't going to stop me from driving.
BTW...

I'm not a big fan of the TSX either but I would take that any day over the RSX. however, I don't think your milage will improve that much to make it worth it.
