Civic SI: worth the $?
Civic SI: worth the $?
I have an 03 Accord V6 sedan and I am in love with the new SI so I got an internet quote from several dealers. Here are two of the responses.
Dealer 1:
Hi James,
The new Civic Si has had an overwhelming response. Unfortunately it is going to be a limited production vehicle. We are the largest dealership in the state and we will only receive five (5) for the entire 2006 model year. We have already taken more deposits than we have cars allotted for this model year. We can start taking deposits for the 2007 model year in May of next year. There is always a chance that one may fall through the deposit system (color or affordability) because will be selling the Civic Si for $5,000 OVER MSRP. I can keep your name on file if you like and let you know if one becomes available. Please let me know by email or phone if you would like me to keep you on file.
The Civic coupe is still and excellent vehicle with 140 hp and loads of standard features. It is Motor Trends' "Car of the Year" and is an excellent value. If you are interested in a Civic coupe please let me know since I do have a few in stock ready for delivery.
Have a nice day,

Dealer 2 was the only one offering the SI at MSRP, but with a wait.
Dealer 1 ruined my day as this was the first quote I got. I love the SI and all, but $5000 over MSRP, hell no! Apparently people are willing to do it, what do you guys think?

I'd say tell the first dealer he's crazy and just wait to get it from the second dealer. Besides, if the first dealer is only getting 5 for the entire model year, then they're not doing a good enough job moving cars to be eligible for more and their pricing tactics prove why.
rondog, what do you mean? Is he bullshitting about the demand of the car or the markup, thinking someone will take the $5000 bait?
gdubb, i like my car but i just want something a little sportier. The J30A4 is addictive, but almost 200hp with an 8000rpm redline and LSD and tighter suspension sound all too good to me. Plus I'm tired of the slushbox and wanted a 6speed. If I kept the accord, I'd have to get springs, Koni yellows, rear sway bar, (and throw on some Ronjon servos for looks) just to get some decent handling out of it. The SI is great right out of the box.

^ depends what the car is and how big the demand is(F430-you're gonna pay over MSRP) but were talking a civic si, common its a civic. wait a year and you'll get a used one for 2-3K less, let someone else take the depreciation hit if you're smart.
and i agree, don't go from V6 to I4, you'll miss the extra umph.
don't buy the BS about the allotment, limited edition blah blah blah. me personally I would never pay over 18K for a civic. $22K is way too much IMO for a civic

Before I got the s2k, I called a bunch of dealers in the area and most of them were pretty straight up. They all said that the Si's will probably never be sitting at a dealer "waiting" to be sold.
All of the Si's were on a pre-order basis and all the dealers were already sold out of their first shipments. The price that I was getting for an Si w/o navi was $20,500, which I think is a great price.
If I put a $100 deposit down, I could have one by March. I didn't have the luxary to wait until then, so I settled on an S2k.

i got a quote yesterday from a local honda dealer in jersey saying the dealer can get me a Nighthawk Black Pearl Civic Si with Navi for 20,800. so i dont know where you got your quote from but thats definitly a ripoff

For 5k over invoice, i'd tell him to go fuck himself, i'm buying an RSX/TSX or supercharged Scion TC. Shit, for 5k more, you can get a new Mustang GT. Manufacterers have to start cracking down on this shit. The s2k was selling over sticker for the longest time. And it sucks more for Honda vehicles, because they are supposed to be affordable and have some of the best power to dollar ratio. When a Civic SI with Navi costs close to 28 grand after Taxes and price gouging, then somthing is very wrong.

I hear ya, but once the "new car feeling" wears off it will get old real fast. Especially when your on the highway in 6th and have to drop to 4th to get going again to pass someone, whereas your v6 you just ease on the gas.
Oh it does not kick in until 6k so you done get munch umph and when you do its short.
I would be looking at WRX if I was you
Thanks 4 all the replies guys!
aaronnn, r u seriuos 20,800 WITH NAV?!?! I might need to come to Jersey.
sakigt, i have not driven one but if it is anything like the rsx-s, i'll like it.
gdubb, that's what I'm going thru now, the 'Cord is getting old on me. The only thing that is holding me back is that I'd have to fork out more $ and the fact that the J30A4 is BEA-U-TI-MUS! I might just get the Mod bug and change it up and wait on the SI.

Worth the money if you like the car, the car for me hasn't really pushed any buttons where I'd need to run out and buy one though. Plus there should be a lot more new cars coming to the segment within the next year that I would want to look at first.
