A lot of SUVs are cheaply-constructed ... but the price tags are high

94 Explorer? They go for dirt cheap, but dont expect too much of anything...and make sure it doesnt have Firestones...

EDIT: Ok, it seems that the price's of these have risen a average of 500.00...must be because everybody is looking for winter SUVs...

No, it's because 94 Explorers are making a comeback ... crappy handling and body integrity:

<= parents leased way too many Explorers between 1994 and 2005

How cheap is cheap ??

I've always wanted a late 90's Chevy 4x4 pickup (anything that still has the 350 V8) for a winter beater...

Can't go wrong with a used CRV or Pilot...

Pathfinders are popular too... https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ght=pathfinder

Might want to just invest in a good set of winter rims/tires... Having to register/insure 2 vehicles can be expensive (or a hassle, if you only use one for 3 months and the other for 9 months)...

An older Chevy Blazer is probably your best bet, but what about a Honda Passport or Izuzu Rodeo? I'm sure you could find one of those for cheap.

I ended up picking up a 95 pathfinder SE 4WD. I love it. and its going to end up my primary car when I sell my CL (well, I more or less stopped driving the CL since I'm going to sell it.)

I picked it up $2300 plus another $600 for a new clutch.

Theres a Pathfinder around here of the same year, for $4500.00...the paint is shot to shit, and has tons of rust on the hood...I stopped to look at it at the side of the road...I thought it was nice as I drove by, but looked like crap up close

It's not impossible if you don't mind doing some work on it, but if you're looking for something to just get in a drive it's going to take awhile to find the deal of the year

At this time of year, cheap 4x4's are tough to find. Usually all the great deals are gone by the time the 2nd snowfall occurs.

Old Jeep Wranglers can be found pretty cheaply, but you gotta watch out for rust (body, floor, frame).... My Step-dad is looking for a cheap jeep (under 3K) and all he's found so far is stuff that needs alot of work... I told him to keep looking (and asked my cousin Jon the jeep guy to keep an eye out for one), or to buy 2 (he looked at 2 this weekend that complimented each other parts wise) and make one good one out of the combined parts

I've had my eye on this thing for over a month now:
