Supposedly it's a completely legal R34 from the Motorex scandal years ago. Read about it here: 'MotoRex and the North American Skyline Fiasco" - the Skyline GT-R wiki

"In April 2006, the D.O.T. sent bond releases to owners who had imported their cars through Motorex. This would enable the Skyline owners to register their cars at the DMV. Some of those Skylines that received bond releases were modified by Motorex to comply with U.S. standards. Some were not. According to Morris, no Skylines (R32, R33, R34) have been imported from Japan since Motorex shut down."

Just read that story, super confusing, but definitely adds to the mystique of the R34. Ever since Gran Turismo I've wanted a blue one

The price difference for the brand is insane in the US, though. Serious moolah needed to have an Ariel here.
