which car should i buy??????

This is the situation:

Currently i drive a 01 Infiniti QX4. college is going to be starting up in the next month and i will be commuting, about 40-50 miles each day. With the way gas prices are going and how my truck decides it likes to drink gas i need something with decent fuel economy. i do live up in the north east so i will be more then likely driving in the snow alot on the highway in the winter months and no way in hell do i want to get stuck. so this leaves me looking for a car that is all wheel drive, or atleast front wheel drive. and it should be fun to drive, i don't want something boring.

i'm looking at:
G35x (new or slightly used)
subaru legacy ( GT or the 2.5i, prefer GT)
Subaru WRX
audi S4 or A4 (slight used)
04+ TL
TSX

my price range is anywhere from 20-30K. the legacy and WRX can be baught really cheep right now for the 06's. i have looked at these cars and gone to the dealers and most of them except audi will give it to me for 500 over invoice. and i would like something that still has a warranty on it.

make me a suggestion on which one that would fit, and if you have a car i should look at then post it.

Drove the legacy GT few days ago, best bang for the buck and good gas mileage.

i really do like the legacy GT alot better then the 2.5i, but there is a big price difference. but they will give it to me with about 4-6K off of what they are asking for it. Legacy deffinitly kicked the shit out off the G35x and the Audi A4.

From your list I would choose a six-speed TSX. Not on your list, but worth consideration, is an Accord six-speed.

For under 20K you could get a CLS 6spd

Out of the ones on your list, the Legacy GT would be one of my choices, and if gas mileage is a big concern, the TSX would be right up there too...

The G35 sedans are cheap (resale is terrible compared to the coupe), and with the refresh coming out this fall, I'm sure they would drop even more... So you might want to stay away deom the G35X if resale value is a concern...

trust me i've been looking for a CLS 6speed, but so rare and they want all the money for them, and some has been beet. if i can find one within the next month or so, cartified and pretty damn nice with low miles i may jump on it. my dealer is looking out if one comes in on trade and is going to call me if they show up. and with the G35x, that is a concern that i have.

i htink i'm leaning towards the Legact GT...but the only thing is that to me it needs a slight lip kit to give it a better look.

FYI, I just bought a brand new 2006 Legacy GT for $23,900+TTL. It only had 6 miles on it and still had all the protective stuff on it.

Email dealers for prices and email them again to beat prices you get from other dealers. Good luck!

Not Certified, but here's one w/ 27K miles for 20... (you can probably talk 'em down from there)...

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/search...lor=&x=84&y=11

I don't know why every one thinks they are so rare Sure they only made 3511 of 'em, but I see 'em forsale all the time...

There's a least 1/2 dozen of of 'em in the black market and 3 on autotrader within 50 miles of us...

EDIT: I purposely avoid going down the road where Somerset Subaru is on... I'm tempted to take one of the legacy GT's out for a test drive...

Not sure, but a few of the second gen owners have made the switch to the legacy GT...

Mattg bought a white one, but he had a silver 2nd Gen CL...

AD had a black first gen, but he got a back 05 legacy...

Hes had his for awhile now.

Like Greenie mentioned, Mattg also bought one, AD has one, bljmx has a wagon (looks sweet), Randymax has a wagon as well and I believe Red Rider bought one as well.

They are amazing cars for the money, and probably gonna be my next car.

AS, which dealer are you going to... Bald Hill ??

just curious... I've got Somerset Subaru around the corner from me... If I bought a Subie, it would be easy to bring it in for service...

yea i'm going to go up to bald hill. my grandfather knows the owner up there, and my dad and grandfather was looking at them last weekend. they have a white one up there thats an 06 but it's a base 2.5i. i really like the GT's alot better, plus the power . but right now they are giving out crazy rebates and incentives that goes below invoice for the car, so i can get one for about how much i can sell my truck for.

there is another dealer that my dad knows that is also giving out alot of rebates and are also well bellow invoice.

so i test drove two subi's today.

i went up to bald hill first and drove a regular 2.5i since they do not have any GT's, and the 07's aren't coming in for another month. this one was completely base. i took it for the drive, the suspension and ride was really good. you felt the road but it didn't knock you around. the power though to me was nonexistant. it really had nothing, i had my foot in it at 60 and it took literally a good few minutes for it to get to 75-80.

after i baught that one back i went to another dealer in NK, just so happens he had one Legacy GT limited left. it's blue with the tan interior, no spoiler, no navi. he was kind enough to let me test drive it, it still had the white plastic wrap on it before i drove it. the interior is deffinitly nice and the leather seats held you in them. as i pull out of the lot i step on it slightly and it felt just like the regular 2.5 then at about 3500rpm i felt the boost . the car has tons of ample power once in the boost range but below it it feels a little sluggish. the suspension was very smooth and stable the whole time, just like the 2.5 but a little stiffer. there was a bit of body roll but not alot and the car sticks in a tight high speed curve. it did understeer just a bit but not to much. the brakes are really good and stops it in a hurry. the auto tranny at times seemed like it was having a hard time finding what gear it should be in, which somewhat annoyed me a bit.

overall the subi is a great car.the price they will sell it to me is 5K below sticker, which is about 3K below invoice. this is one of the 4-5 in the region right now that are 06's and everyone of them is blue. decisions..... decisions.

Yeah, I looked at a couple of the local dealer sites, and the GT limited is pretty hard to find... especially if your looking for a particular color/navi/5spd...

the 07's come in, in a few weeks so they are trying to get rid of these and have the incentives on these. bald hill has two coming in at the end of this month/beginning of next month, one auto one five speed. the one i found is one that i like. wish the blue was a bit darker but ohh well, and i don't need the navi.

TSX.

If it were me it would be the G car but reading your post I think the TSX would be the logical choice.

I think the TSX is a good choice too. I have to ask though; since when do G35 sedans have "terrible resale". Maybe it's different in some areas but afaik they're residuals are still well above 55%, and resale is strong.

Used car ads on autotrader.com is where I'm getting my opinion from, and while it's probably a good indicator, it's not very scientific...

Edmunds.com doesn't split out resale for coupe vs. sedans... But a quick kbb.com search comfirms my suspicions... There's a $3500 difference between the coupe and sedan (at least for the 2003 and 2004 automatic models). I'm too lazy to look up and cut and paste all the data for all years, auto vs. manual, etc, but here's what kbb says for 2004...

Code:
2004 Infiniti G35 Coupe 2D

Condition Value
Excellent $26,750
Good $25,230
Fair $23,105

2004 Infiniti G35 Sedan 4D

Condition Value
Excellent $23,050
Good $21,730
Fair $19,905

Fair enough; but you're not taking into account the price difference to begin with and you're comparing a coupe to a sedan (coupes almost always have better re-sale than sedans). You're concluding that the G35 sedans re-sale is poor based on a comparision to the coupe, which has excellent re-sale values. You should be comparing it to equivilant sedans in the market. In those terms it has an above average re-sale. I could compare the G35 coupe to almost any 4-door sports sedan on the market and use that to indicate that the 4-door has a poor re-sale.

Cheers.
