i don't think there is a best source. No matter where you go (online)you will get hit by Nigerian scammers.

i figured the nigerian scammers would come as a bonus, i just don't want to take such a big hit by trading it in.

I had great luck with Craigslist. www.craigslist.com

At first I tried the old fashioned way and paid $70 for Fri, Sat, & Sun in my local paper. One person called.

I put the same info & pictures on Craigslist, and got about 25 responses. Sold in 3 days.

Good luck

Trading a car in is not always a bad deal, first of all it's instant, no headaches, no hassle, that has to be worth something. Secondly times are tough and dealers are doing what it takes to make deals happen, you can get a higher trade in value then in more prosperous markets. Finally, in some states, NY being one of them, you only pay sales tax on the difference between the cars, effectively adding 8% to the price of the trade, which on my last 3 cars has brought the the actual value with in a few hundred bucks of the best private party transaction I could hope to see.

For a reference take it to Carmax to see what they have to say. It might surprise you.

Autotrader (internet and print package) worked well for me.

Otherwise, trading-in is easy, but you'll need to negotiate the deal well to get near the amount a retail buyer would otherwise pay.

True. I tried to sell my CL privately before I traded it. It was a pain in the ass responding to some of the retarded questions I would get.

I did sell a car on ebay, and even that was annoying. I had one guy purchase it, and then after the sale was complete he backed out and never paid me. So I ended up having to post it again. Then I got a ton of people asking why it was re-posted. Sometimes it's not worth the aggravation.

Depends on your car and the market of course, but I tried selling a car on Craigslist and Autotrader. Maybe it was just a bad time (last summer), but I didn't have too much interest. On Autotrader, I got more calls from scam companies than actual interested parties. These companies find your number through the ad and then solicit their service, saying they can "guarantee" to sell the vehicle for you, for a small fee of course. And even when you tell them to take a hike, they keep calling back.

I have had success with craigslist and Autotrader. I sold my TL in three days from the time I posted it on autotrader. My CRX si took 5 weeks to find a buyer on craigslist. It took me 8 months to sell my RX7 posting it on every forum and craigslist, it eventually got sold because of Hondatech.

I have never had success with Ebay.
