Ok, you got me there... the ES interior is still much better.

But the ES looks sooo plain on the outside. I know that's not out of the ordinary for the ES, but still.

To be fair, the picture of the Lexus interior is the GS350. The ES has the same basic outline, just a smaller screen. Fit & finish is still superb.

I work with these cars every day. The quality & finish, esp. compared to the last generation is just about on par. with what the Germans offer, & leagues above Volvo as far as refinement. The ES, or most of the new redesigned Lexus have come leaps & bounds over the past models.

Only an idiot would think Toyota would still allow their cars to outshine their premium brand.

Sit in the previous generation RX350 versus the new one. The old has a much better quality interior.

Are you kidding me? Read most reviews comparing both cars. The Avalon is just as good if not better than the ES.

The new S60 has a nicer interior than many German cars, but because it's a Volvo it gets overlooked. The new ES isn't that impressive a car, especially for the money.

I also don't think the center stack/dash on the Avalon looks better than the ES's. I prefer the ES's simpler center stack/dash layout. The Avalon's center stack/dash doesn't flow as nicely or is as nicely balanced as the ES's.

You NEVER put navigation screen under vents

GS350's interior.

Stop trying to argue subjective points.

Or continue...we can all get a good laugh.

Still gonna say you're wrong on fit and finish, too. Enjoy!

The new Avalon is a really great driving car. It's in no way like the old one. Same with the new 2014 Highlander, albeit to a less extent. Does the FR-S drive like a Toyota?

You must have been a little twinkle in your daddy's sack during the times of the Supra, the MR2, or the 2000 GT.

Avalon great driving car?

It is not sharing parts with Camry anymore?

i guess your definition of great driving car and mine are different.

I think you need to read up on the new Avalon if you don't know anything about it.

With its firm but still cosseting ride and polished feel over the road, the Avalon is vastly more pleasant to drive than before
Avalon is vastly more nimble, feeling more tossable on curvy roads.
But against its competitive set, the Avalon is highly compelling for the first time, well, ever.
How many ways can we say that the Toyota Avalon is one of the most surprising cars we've driven in recent memory?

No, it won't get your heart pounding, but the Avalon is polished and poised with an added dose of of style never before seen on a Toyota sedan.
There you go. Until you drive the new Avalon, you can't say it's just a Camry. It obliterates the Camry. What is said in these reviews is exactly what I found when I drove it.

So are you talking about their "normal" cars or their performance oriented cars? You don't get to try and play both sides of the coin.

If it shares the same suspension and chassis then yes it still drives like shit.

The new Camry is better than the previous ones too. But that does not mean it is a Great Driving Car.

Well, let's be realistic. They have one performance oriented car. Before that I think it was 20 years ago they killed the last one

I don't count the last Celica or the Mrs 2.

Does it matter if it shares parts with the Camry? It's a different car, with a different suspension and different suspension tuning.

That's like saying the Audi A3's, A4's and A5's many people fawn over drive like s*** because they share parts with VW's.

Normal cars.

The reason I mentioned the FR-S is because oonowindoo said this:

The new Avalon looks way better and more upscale than the ES in real life.

but it still drives like shit.
I then said this:

Not the new one.
And then he said this:

You are saying Avalon does not drive like a Toyota?
This implies that all Toyota's drive like s***. I don't think that's what he meant, considering Toyota has made fabulous cars like the Supra, MR2, Corolla All trac, FR-S etc, but I just wanted to say that just because it's Toyota doesn't mean it's a bad driving car.

A bad driving car...and a numb driving car are to different things.

I don't think toyotas drive bad...but they are boring. Performance cars notwithstanding.

I had a corolla for 6 months in Detroit...boring.

I leased a prius that I turned in one year early...its was meh.

I currently lease a highlander...after a year Im bored driving it.

Toyota, overall, makes safe to drive appliances. no more no less and they are known for that more than their performance cars...you can't deny that.

This is 100% true for most Toyota's, but if you get the opportunity, give the 2013-2014 Avalon a drive. It's much better than all of the recent Toyota's I've driven (And owned for that matter)

I really liked the 2014 Highlander as well. Big improvement over it's predecessor and very competitive with other options in the class, something that can't be said for the 2014 Corolla and the 2012-2014 Camry (among others). If I'm honest, I hated all the 2nd generation Highlanders I've driven.

The highlander (2012) is a nice cushy ride...its comfy for my wife and kids to ride in and its her primary driver not mine.

I like the 2014 highlander as well...but Im sure it won't be much more of an exciting drive.

I had much more fun driving my moms old LS400 back in the day...and out the 3 RXs she had, I liked the 400h the best, it was fairly sporty. But now she has an SRX and says she loves the way it drives over any of her past Lexus.

That's my number one complaint against them and other cars like them. They're made for people that want their car to act like a toaster. I want it to do one thing and do it every time I use it. Make toast or get me from A to B so I don't have to take a bus.

The idea of being stuck with a Corolla or something like that gives me anxiety like I'm trapped in a box.

It's not exciting but it's a not a complete bore like the 2nd generation was. It's no worse than any other SUV in the class.

The 2nd generation RX was the best one, but in the end any gen RX had to cater to a specific buyer. If you're looking for an invigorating driving experience look elsewhere. My old 1999 Sienna made my old 2004 Odyssey feel like an Audi R8.

I loved the way my 4runner V8 drove though.

I think the current durango is really fun to drive, had one for two weeks a couple years ago as a rental.

I loved my old pathfinder. But the idea of the new one being a car derived platform annoys me.

I think this is too old for me.

I should have left the thread the moment i hear Avalon, Camry in the same sentence with "fun, driving car".

and no i am not going to go test drive the Avalon, waste of my time.

The quality of the 2 steering wheels is enough to tell the difference.
Are you kidding me? Read most reviews comparing both cars. The Avalon is just as good if not better than the ES.
The only area I have read the Avalon is better is how it drives, which doesn't make much of an argument considering the ES isn't meant to be anything exciting to drive. It's a luxury car aimed at retirees.

Besides, we're talking fit & finish, and no, the Avalon is still not in the same class as the ES because it isn't meant to be.
The new S60 has a nicer interior than many German cars, but because it's a Volvo it gets overlooked.
The S60 has a very basic & plain interior outline. It may have materials comparable to the Germans, but it doesn't look anywhere as nice & that ultimate reflects in the final presentation of which car has the better interior.

Doesn't take an idiot to see which of these stands out as far as material & the basic finish of each car sits. Again, may have good materials, but the Volvo sports a very bland interior compared to the rest.
The new ES isn't that impressive a car, especially for the money.
Wait a second. If the ES isn't that impressive a car for the money, how the fuck can you argue the Avalon is something any better when it comes out to $1-2K (when equipped similarly) in range of an ES, yet offers less in terms of fit & finish?
