Which car to get?

So my brother is being surprised for christmas with a new car. We have an idea of what he likes and we think we have it narrowed down to about two cars. So my question to you guys is which car you think would be the better choice? heres the cars:

- 2008 Audi A4 2.0 turbo sline (6 speed)

or

- 2006-2008ish lexus is 250 (Possibly 6 speed)

2008 A4 IMO. The is250 just isn't a good car for the price, if it was a is350 then maybe. My sister bought one brand new and I just can't believe that the is250 is actually worth almost $40k. Is it such a sluggish car and girly looking. I do have to say the interior is pretty nice though, but it would be hard to beat the Audi interior.

The A4 2.0T has real potential. Massive torque. If he plans on modding it at all, just getting an ecu tune will net him huge gains for minimal wallet dent.

Get the A4. If he is a car enthusiast at all, he will really appreciate that you didn't purchase the is250. Just my 2 cents.

The audi 2.0... It has more potential.

If you get an ECU tune (APR or Bluefin) on the A4 2.0T you can get about 250hp and 320lbs torque. Plus the A4 produces all that torque at low RPM.

I forgot to mention, but it will also be AWD vs RWD. Unless you're considering the is250 AWD, which still can't compare to the Audi.

Why doesn't your brother pick the car out for himself? A car is a pretty big purchase for most people.

Why not an IS350? MB C350? The lexus is already a girly car. Top it off with a 2.5L engine, you got yourself a college girl's car.

Audi all the way. We had a B7 A4 2.0T. Quick car (not fast), but one little chip upgrade and that changes things. At the same time we had that car our friend had an IS250. Not even close IMO. If he can spring for the IS350, then that's a different story... but the 250 was OK at best. And the Audi was great... never saw the dealer except for scheduled maintanence. A friend of mine had the 6-speed and that thing was just buttery smooth.

BTW, hope your brother is a good guy and appreciates the gift. I also hope he's not one of these people crying about the economy b/c a good job isn't being handed to him on his lap...

i honestly have no idea what your comment has to do with the op's question, makes no sense.

anyhow, like the others have said the Audi has more potential. The Is250 is bit boring, slow, and small, and a lot of them are on the road. of course probably more reliable than the audi, but the if you maintain the audi well, it'll be as reliable.

gl in your choice though, my personal opinion the Audi. Looks better and better performance, whether AWD or not.

I love the IS design and the A4 design however since you are comparing the 4 cylinder models only I would say the A4 absolutely. Just do not think the IS250 goes well.

let me rephrase it for you.....

I DON'T LIKE EITHER CAR
BUT IF I WAS LIMITED TO ONLY THOSE 2 CARS AND HAVE TO MAKE A DECISION, I WOULD
PICK THE A4!

understand now?

i think he would like the a4 better to and the turbo opens up a lot more options for power gains compared to the is250. Gotta love the 6speed to

Hi I just wanted to put in my 2 cents. I think the Audi A4 is the better car. The IS250 is a good car, beautiful interior, but they have engine problems, (all of them) Lexus poor design of placing the injectors so close to the intake valve. they have problems with the cylinder heads, and burnt valves. If you have the money to Maintain the Audi then it is an Awsome car, well built, great handling, and good highway performance stock. The only problem I had with the A4 was the interior room was very small, but it all depends on what you use your car for. That's one of the reasons I got a TL.

IS250. It's underpowered, perfect for a young kid.

I raced this girl with an IS250 (we were in Mexico). I beat her by a couple buslengths and I have no performance mods. To top it all off she claimed that she mixed up her "acceleration tabs" (she meant paddle shifters)

There's nothing wrong with getting a kid a nice car, if the parents have the means to do so. It's not like he's getting a Vette or 911

You can't really go wrong with either car. Unless your brother drives a lot I would go with the Audi.

<<< has an is250. id consider it girly without any type of exterior mods. the manuals are extremely hard to come by, and i do NOT recommend a manual configuration. toyota re-used a clunky tranny from some pick-up truck. it is not befitting for the IS platform.

if the prices are similar, i would go with the a4 in a heartbeat. the only reason im sitting in the IS250 is because audi lease pmts were almost 50% more.

I haven't driven the IS250, so my answer to get the Audi is a little biased because I own an Audi. However, with how mod friendly the 2.0T motor is, I think he would have a lot of fun with it. And the fact that the 2.0T in the B8 starts out at 50+ more torque than the 2.0T in the B7 and gets up to 333 lb-ft of torque with a stage 1 tune running 93 octane, it is nothing to scoff at. Sure it may not out run a lot of sports cars, but it can be a lot of fun to drive and look at.

I think the OP is looking at the B7. Still a great engine though.

One thing I like about the IS250 is the leather. It's incredibly soft compared to the Audi's.

leather was revamped for 2009. OP is looking at a different setup. <09 is similar to the leatherette + inner seat perforations a la acura

if it was the IS 350, then it would be different.
