Car Driven In Flood

I live in Key West, FL and we had some pretty bad flooding last week. On the way home from work in my 11' VW CC at 6am it was a pouring pretty badly and most of the streets were flooded in town. I took a route that never usually floods and thought it would be fine. I made it all the way to my street when I realized the water was about 3/4-1 ft deep and my car started to stall, it never actually stalled but engine light came on for a few minutes. I made it home and then later that day I was driving the car and the engine light started to flash and the engine would rev but there seemed to be no power going to the wheels. That happened for about 20-25 seconds and then it seemed to be fine again. I got home and opened the hood. While at the front of the car I noticed my headlights had a lot of moisture in them and my fog lights were shattered and did not work at all. I called my insurance company and they finally sent an adjuster out today and they are saying that my haedlights and fog lights need to be replaced as well as the interior of the car including all the carpets and seats because some water entered into the car. I still have no idea about what is going on with the engine. The adjuster said that no water was in the engine oil but there might be some in oil for the tranny which is causing the temporary feeling of power loss.

I was shocked that all of this had to be done. I know several cars around town were totalled because of the high water but it doesnt seem like they are going to do that with mine. My car is a lease and I am wondering if a flood claim on the cars history will affect my lease in any way.

Still waiting to hear from insurance company on their decision.....

I wonder if similar will be reported on Car Fax esp when it goes unreported to insurance.

It's leased. It should not matter. You don't own the car.
Sounds like a bad sensor from the water to me, or hell even the ECU inside the car may have gotten wet. If the engine runs fine there should be no damage to it. Change the oil change the fluids, coolant, power steering, trans & it should be fine.
