Car basics

Hey guys, I'm currently 16 and am just fascinated with cars, I currently drive a 2009 rouge my parents got me. I want to start getting into cars learn more about them. I had the idea of getting a project car for under 4000 but that's really just thrown out the window for now until I learn more. Where do I start and where do I start getting knowledge on diagnosing, and fixing vehicles to the point where I can start with my first project car.

Your starting off right by the resources of the forum...

There is a lot of information on the internet that could help you...

This still seems like more of an idea than anything else at this point...

Just go and look at YouTube videos and other forums...

Also, how is the Rouge? My neighbor has one, I've sat in a few of them, very comfortable seats and good forward visibility... Never drove one though...

Proof we need things back in school such as auto body, wood/metal shop, home ec, etc

I had these kinds of classes in 6th grade...and then the schools I went to after that offered none of these.

Very sad.

so, you're just going to disregard all the very great ideas I gave you? I was VERY patient with you!

you cant even tell me where the ass end is located at....
and you want a project car. hah.

get comfortable with the Rogue. You need to be able to wrench on it comfortably. ALL THOSE SKILLS WILL TRANSFER TO OTHER VEHICLES!

even your title says "Car basics"

learn the EFFING basics before you go out and waste a bunch of money on something that you might or might not be able to fix

I really do enjoy it, it's actually pretty comfortable, I'm a big kid I'm 6'2 so a passenger is okay for me. But the one thing is ITS SLOW !!! It's fine to switch/swerve through lanes but it's horribly slow acceleration is pretty bad but other than that it's a good car.

Step 1. buy some tools
Step 2. find something that needs to be repaired on your vehicle and get in there.
step 3. when you break something trying to fix that item, repair it.
step 4. drink a soda and have a sammich.

The only way to learn how to repair cars is to work on what you already have. Most likely you will break something when you are in there. it's the nature of the beast. Then you'll have to buy more tools to fix that.

It takes years to learn and understand some of the general items.

Honestly, mostly this one...
if you can learn to navigate it and interact, you'll be alright. All your answers for how to work on the car and whatnot can be found here.

3G TL's seem to be coming down in price substantially...maybe you can find one that needs some love...6MT...for near your price range.

Tons of stuff on here: https://www.youtube.com/user/EricTheCarGuy

Also... going to close this topic and rename the other one. It's much easier for you to find info down the road when everything is in one topic. Plus, you don't need two of what are basically the same threads...
