Car accident information
Car accident information
So, after 1 month of Acura ownership, I was involved in an accident this weekend on I-290 on my way into Chicago.
Basically, there were 4 cars. I am car number 3 in this scenario:
#1--->#2--->#3--->#4
I was sitting in stop-and-go traffic. Car #4 stopped in front of me, I stop behind about maybe 4 feet or so. I look in rearview mirror, see car #2 stop behind me. Car #1 plows into car number #2, pushing it into my rear bumper which then pushes me into car #4.
Car #4 has no damage. It was a CRV, so I hit the wheel and tire on the back of the car with my hood, which dents my hood and pushes it up. There was a 1998 Acura CL behind me that hit me, scraped up the bumper and damaged it.
Now, the lady in car #1 gave her info to car #2, but then took off without even approaching me. I was exchanging info with car #4 when I see her pull away! The guy in car #2 got her info, but no insurance information and now she's gone. I have her phone numbers and address and work email and work phone.
I did go file a police report today.
What am I supposed to do now? I have Allstate, do I file with them and let them deal with determining car #1's insurance or do I have to get a hold of her too in order to obtain that information.
I'm a n00b at accidents
but am so pissed off at the fact that this happened and I have only had the car for a month.
I am glad that no one was injured though.
Any advice? The
isn't much help here.......

I'm not the expert at this kinda stuff because the laws vary so widely and when it comes to insurance, you never know. I'm a firm believer in no-fault laws fwiw, if it were up to you, you'd have to use your own insurance for yourself, there were be limits to [medical] liability, and/or all those different iterations of no-fault....whatever.
But I think if it is true that everyone was stopped and not just simply trying to stop, but actually standing still, and car #1 plows into 3 different cars, seems to me you and the rest of the group let the culprit leave the scene.
sorry to hear about your car. how someone three cars back pushed you into the car 4 feet ahead of you in bumper to bumper traffic....beats me.

Call your insurance. Give them the police report number and all the info on the person that caused the accident. The insurance and police will handle the rest. If they need you to do anything they will call. You could go to the persons house to get the insurance info but I wouldn't. Who knows what they're like and it could cause you more problems.
Yup! I assume a Police report has been made. I would do a drawing on paper and write out exactly what happened. Include any details as far as name/license plate number/insurance info on each car. As for the last car, explain what happened and direct questions on the last car to the car owner that was behind you.
Your Insurance will tkae care of the rest.
