You got that right. CA police would have their little knees jerking like crazy if they saw some of the machines running around here in Virginia. Actually, we can't blame it on the police.. more like the politicians and the citizens for allowing their representatives to pass such laws.

I't some along the lines of, "Oh.. you own guns.. you might go out and kill someone".

I know there are a lot of people in California who don't like this kind of nonsense. I feel sorry for you having to put up with it.

All the shit that were red flags was rice anyway

I think they could have spiced up the "Failure to Comply" by the guy saying something like "FUCK YOU PIG, I dont open my shit for no one.."

Ridiculous, I still can't see why some of this stuff is illegal. Why not ban Ferrari's from CA? They're way faster than these rice out cars.

I thought it was lame that if you don't pop your hood, you get arrested. Is it like that in all states? I have no idea. I would hope not.

It just depends on where you live...but yes California is cracking down on modified cars big time. Even in my mustang I've been told to open the hood or else. All cause the cop thought I was doing burnouts (IGNORE AVATAR) I was stopped when the carb needed a rebuild...it caught on fire if I gave it too much gas...cop finally realized that and let me go.

That has to be biggest waste of man hours I have ever seen. Just to pull a guy over if he is modified is just insane.

wouldnt this mean that every 1 out of 5 cars would get pulled over.. im pretty sure thats the ratio here in jersey of ricers with fart cans. although the cops are pulling over because the cars have only ricer parts on it. its only that civic in the video that actually had pretty impressive mods in there. But MAJORITY of the ricers around, only have those outside parts. Fart cans, "racing" decals, dropped/aftermarket rims...

CA laws are more gay than Ryan Seacrest.
My CRX would have been pulled over SOOOOOOOO long ago. It has type R motor swap,CAI, dual cherry bombs(no cat on it) headers, MSD igition module, cam gears, more aggressive cam, some other small crap to the motor. they'd have a fit with the full roll cage and tons of stickers.

the only thing they'd give you shit for would be the "cherry bombs" headers

btw, bothered to get any pictures of your CRX yet?

That video makes me want Cali to float out into the ocean even more

So as I understand it Cali thinks its more important to harrass peope with modded cars than focusing on Killers, and other criminals. Brilliant

I haven't seen the video of it, but the premise I have is the guy was caught out in the street racing areas or was doing something stupid. If i'm not mistaken all states have some laws for vehicle codes (can only go so low, etc).

W/o seeing the video, was the guy acting like an idiot? was it a riced out car, what kind of stuff was the cop looking for?

Another thing is most the cops don't know the actual laws they are trying to enforce. I got pulled over about 6 months ago because the cop said my exhaust was to loud. Well it met the proper laws and after telling him that he wrote me up for my car being to low. But it met the requirements, he just didn't know the right one, he said the headlights had to be 25" off the ground when it was in fact 22"

Its a training video, with actors. So they go through a few scenarios. Honestly my experience with cops has been, anything is possible. When you get pulled over, anything can happen. The cop can be having a bad day and give you 3 tickets for random stuff - you can take em to court and get em written off. Going to court is another thing where anything can happen.. The cop can be having a great day and let you off with a warning. Or nothing at all. You might be able to "talk" your way out of it. Or, trying to talk your way out of it may backfire on you and your in worse shape than you would have been if you hadn't said anything. I think there are so many factors, variables and circumstances that affect and determine the outcome of any "meeting" with a cop that you just can't predict what's going to happen. Cops also pull ppl over just to check out their cars.

I want to know how old this video is. Street racing used to get a lot more ink than it does now. In norcal at least San Jose/Milpitas area police cracked down hard on all the street racing. Same over in the East Bay. There isnt as much going on anymore, or at least the racers are not getting caught as much. Spectators get a 500 dollar ticket just for being in the area, regardless if you were watching or not. Its pretty crazy, but I dont think its nearly at the level as it was

the only way to beat this, is to become a cop yourself and have a hooked up car ahahah. wheres brakejob at!

what exactly are they writing people up for?? is it illegal to have a turbo under the hood? if so, what about stock turbos? i know intakes and headers are legal right, as long as they pass smog

all in all, this is basically worthless. honestly i think this shit happens more in So Cal because you guys have a lot of smaller town cops and more ricers.

if the cops wrote me a ticket for just standing watching a street race I'd fight it to the end. I can see writing the guys in the race tickets. but watching you're not doing anything offensive IMHO.
sounds like some of CA laws are dumb as hell.

honestly it depends on the car.

if the cops see some riced out civic or integra, more often than not they will get pulled over.

but i've seen plenty of bimmer's, audis, and other cars that are lowered but dont' get pulled over.

basically you can have stuff as long as it passes emmission test. Almost everything Comptech makes is "CA friendly" now if you go to some cheap intake you'd get at Parts America or any car part place it probably wouldn't be "CA friendly."
In Ohio they don't really care about exhaust unless it's wickedly loud(I'm talking rattle windows loud) or your doing stupid crap like burning off tires. but personally on the CRX I haven't ran cats on it probably for 5 years and haven't got pulled over for it.

yea you have to be pretty riced out to get pulled over. im talking big wings and fart can mufflers. these cops are stupid, they folow the stereotypes laid down by the bling blingin stickers out rides in fast and furious

san diego cops have nothing better to do. i got pulled over once in SF for racing my friend, and both the cops were laughing and screaming at my friend that he should have smoked me because he was driving a corvette. and these guys were old too haha.

WHY ARE EXHAUSTS AND THOSE ENGINE MODS THEY ARE SHOWING ILLEGAL??? i had a fartcan and intake on my old honda, and i still passed smog. can someone please explain this?

You'd lose, and that law isn't only a Cali thing, many other states enforce the same thing.

Basically, they check to make sure the cars are safe as well as making sure parts are CARB approved. you can't have home made turbo kits, etc. Well you can, and you CAN pass smog w/ them if you know what you are doing, but you still won't pass the visual.

I think most would be suprised by laws in there state if they bothered to look them up, a lot don't allow you to lower or raise cars a certain amount etc.

CA exhaust laws are that it can't exceed 95 dba which is perfectly reasonable IMO.

I still won't be able to watch the video till I get home though, so I don't know what specifics they are talking about.

CLPower is right...95db makes any exhaust modification illegal. You are allowed to modify your exhaust, less the catalytic converters unless CARB approved, as long as it does not exceed the db. A lot of the times if the cops are dicks they will write you a ticket for modified exhaust that exceeded 95db, then you have to go fight it.

The cops in Davis, Ca used to give people a hard time about modified exhausts, while at the same time my shop was installing flowmasters on nearly all the cops personal cars.

I'm glad the cops pull over rice mobiles here. However, if they can pull over ricers with fartcan exahusts, why are Harleys allowed on the street? Damn double standards...

regions are everything - it varies wildly. I went through a 'phase' where i ran a straight pipe on my old supra - i.e. no muffler. It did have a couple of resonators on the 2nd-half of the exhaust though - but they didn't do much to muffle the sound. It was straight out of the exhaust manifold into a 3" downpipe and the 2nd part of the exhaust and then a straight out the back.

I ran it like that for like a year. shit was loud but guess what, not once did I get pulled over for it. I got pulled over for speeding a couple of times with that setup, but the cops said nothing about having no muffler. I mean, you could easily see from driving behind that there was no muffler... and you could also tell from how loud it was - damnit it sounded so raw. I don't know how i got away with that, I really don't.
