2006 C6 Z06 Sneak Preview - July 9, 2005
The Southwest Chapter got a sneak preview of the new 2006 Corvette Z06 thanks to member Jim Contes. Jim brought this beautiful black/black Z06 out from the Proving Grounds to Garry Mion's home, where we were able to look it over inside, outside, and underneath. Thanks Jim for bringing the car and thanks Garry for hosting this great event.

That car in black is
I never understood GMs fascination with the whole torsion bar thing though? Why not go regular coil over strut set-up like many other manafacturers?
I want a lift in my garage

The C6 Z is light years ahead of the interior on the C5.

Corvettes are impressive, but my say that I'll never even consider a Corvette. I love having a rare car. The Corvette won't do it for me, everyone and their grandpa has had one. My dad had one and my parents are not very car-minded.

I'd take and older car like the '95 NSX-R over the Corvette. But that's just me.

I've sat in the C6 many times. While it is not a great interior, that picture does not do it justice. It's not great by any means, but it's not terrible either

The C6 Z06 is going to be one great car. Honestly, the interior doesn't need to be Mercedes or Bently esque, it serves one purpose and that is to control the car. Having such creature comforts as NAV, cd, hud, led gagues is a great touch (SRT-10 doesn't have)
Rated at 505hp the thing is really really mildly tuned from the factory! Look at the numbers.
427ci
7,000rpm
titanium internals
monsterous heads
dry sump lubrication
the list goes on and on....
LS2 owners are finding an extra 30 wheel horsepower with LS2edit and I can only think what the LS7 has hidden inside.
Lets hope they produce enough of them so that in a few years the used prices come down to the point where the common man/woman can own a pretty exotic car.
Best,

I agree with the cheapo lookin' interior. But I'm a firm believer in the idea that once you push the pedal with thouse 500+ hp... you just wont' give a crap anymore.
These LS engines are basically built to run forever, right? (While the rest of the car kinda just falls apart are you)

Umm, no one will have a Z06 but rich fawkers who appreciate a vette, and that will most likely end up being a very few.
And as far as ur parents, they sound more car minded than u.

2nd, exotic class with this zo6 is power, handling, looks and overall performance.

ok i'll give you the handling performance, i overlooked that
but as far as seeing them everyday, i do, yellow black blue everywhere. there are alot of people going through midlife crisis near me(most of the drivers are 40 -50 that i see) and it not like i break my neck to look at them like its a ferrari or nsk or what not. corvettes are everywhere, even the base C5's, so how can you classify them as exotics, maybe overseas its a different story(or in philly or NYC as the other poster claimed. you dont believe me come to my area for a day, hell afew hours even. and no its not the same car over and over again. maybe the fact that i drive 150 miles a day helps that statistic out just a bit!
i'm not taking anything away from the car, i like corvettes and american muscle alot. for 50-60K you cant buy a better performer(brand new of course).

There are at least 5 Z06 owners in Anchorage. I've passed one the other day. There's already a plethora of C5 and C6 owners. I see at least 2 C6's everyday. And Anchorage is not a big town, so I had a mentality that they're about as common as a WRX. Are they really that rare down there?
Don't make it seem like I hate the Corvette, I really like the car. Just don't want to consider it as an option if I decide to go sport-car shopping.

Also, there are guys making Z06 power levels with just exhaust, cam and a tune on the new C6's. Wait until people start modding the z06's, with all the awesome material GM has put into the internals, you will see 650 HP NA z06s in no time.

The oil filter is cool that it will drain without leaving a mess or getting on the exhaust, but it looks very unprotected. Looks like a small rock or road debris may pierce it easily if ran over.

GM has been using an oil filter location similar to the LS7 on virtually all of their engines since... well since the creation of the small block back in 1955. It really isn't an issue as far as protection.
The fact still remains that the Z06 is going to be one of the best performance bargains on the market (along with the new Shelby SVT GT500) Good or bad interior, it is one hell of a car.

I think the main problem is people keep looking at the interior in pictures. It really doesn't do it justice. The materials are all quite nice and the driving feel and location is great. I can think of many cars with far inferior interiors than the Z.
Likewise, GM isn't going to have any trouble selling every single Z06 they produce. So bad interior or not it will be a winner.

I think the point is, if they threw a grand or two at the interior it could be excellent. It doesn't need to be Ferrari quality, accord quality would be good. Pass the costs on to the customer if need be, but it's pretty lame as is. The rest of the car is outstanding.

I know it's not entirely comparable and is a 10 year old car at this point - damn - but it has a nicer interior - and runs 9.8 @ 153 - and can be road-raced if desired, at lower boost.
