Not really, although the 335i supposedly held an edge in 0-140 due to aerodynamics. Guess that isn't the case, however this is only one test. It'll be interesting to see Edmund's/EVO's take on it.

Also, this should put to rest any notion that BMW was going to turn down the wick a tad on the 1-er.

1Addicts had some resident worriers who thought BMW might try to pull a fast one with the claimed "300 hp". The reason BMW really couldn't do that (and I don't think they wanted to) is that they knew 135's were going to get dyno'd as soon as they hit the street. There would be no way to spin the news if the "identical" drivetrain made less power than a 335.

Good news all around, I'd say.

Naaah, it doesn't have the beauty of a 3-series. Mine.

BUT.

Don't trust only the pictures. It looks better in person, so its interior feels.
This little thing looks as a legit and derivative successor of the E46 (the E90 is so much bigger but the 135i is as much heavy - weight doesn't seem to matter these days. ).

I have no doubt that a new cult car is born.

I really can't see why 335i owners would get mad over the performance the 1 is putting down. Just like Scrib said, why is this even surprising...it's the same powerful engine put in a smaller car period. This car might appeal to some here, but I find the 3 sedan and coupes to be better looking than the 1..maybe the looks haven't grown on me. The 3 is arguably the better buy in my humble opinion.

I agree. I'm glad BMW is bringing it here. They should bring the Ti or a 1 series 5-door next.

it is UGLY.
Funny thing is it's the same size as the old E46 which is beautiful. I don't get it.
I am not sure if a new cult car is born ... the 135 gets pricey real quick.

i can see it now. All the kids that owned SRT-4's 5 years ago can now afford 135's and wil be once again terrorizing the streets with their little turbo monsters.

THe most dissapointing part of the 1 is that the 135 and it's much smaller dimensions only get you a grand total weights savings of 137 pounds.

Sure it's quicker but it's not going to handle much, if at all, better givin it's narrower width.

Definitely a cool drivers car but not a return to the 2002 like some people are touting.

^ yea no kidding, I was surprised by its curb weight, at about 4000lbs, the RL suddenly seems to be pretty light for its size and features.

It weighs about 3250-3300 depending on how much gas is in the tank. About the same as a 350Z.

It's still a pretty spendy ride...not sure if too many of the "punk kids" will be affording one.
