BYE ACURA hello LEXUS
Well i said goodbye to my beloved CLS a few days ago.. Im gonna miss her.. But i think i got another good car.
I traded her in with 56K KM and 21000 lien for a black 2000 GS400 with 74K (millenium edition) for $35050CDN out the door. However its unfortunate that the car was off a lease so that the previous moron who drove it did not take good care of the paint. The front there are lots of stone chips and minor scratches. However the interior its still acceptable..Seats and trim and carpet are good condition, but the lettering of the stereo are a little bit worn in some buttons...
I starting to love this car though. I never owned a RWD car before and i can certainly feel the acceleration differencem especially when i put it to power mode. My plan is to have the front end repainted and also the rear bumper to make it look new again. There are only 2 door dings..which is ok.
I will post up pics soon.. I hope this car treated me as good or better than my old CLS has treated me...

The Lexus was advertised for $34950 + tax (15%) and all that crap. I paid $35050 which was only $100 more and they still had to pay my lien of $21000. So i saved at least $5000 worth of taxes and they gave me good $ for my "back to stock" CLS .
and The GS400 is built in Japan.. and because LEXUS is the LEAST problematic cars..
If I could keep both i would.. but im not rich like some people on here.. lol

yeah .. well i want to fix the paint first.. then tint.. then lower it..and change the front grill.. the rims (19s). Im quite happy with the stock performance for now.. supposedly 14.3s in the 1/4 mile.

I don't understand your math exactly.
What you got = $35k value
What you gave up = $30k (value of CLS) - $21k (your debt) = $9k net value
$35k - $9k = $26k upgrade in value
Seems to me you got a $26k upgrade for $35k??? Unless my assumptions about the CLS value are wrong?

why on earth would you pay MORE than what they are asking for a USED CAR???!! Used cars have such a huge profit margin, why didnt you talkthem down to lke 31-32 or something??? paying asking price for a used vehicle is dumb as hell. let ALONE paying more than the asking price??? why? people are right, this does not sound like a good deal.

Even so, they should have given you credit for $4k - $6k of value still in your CLS no?
That being said I think that $35k for the used GS is pretty good :-)
I assume the price you paid is including taxes? If so then I guess they did credit you around $4k for the CLS (or you could look at it as a discount on the GS)

So, some used cars may have $5k in profit where others may have $500.

JIM - bud the asking price was $34950 + 15% tax + cost = a little over 40K... and i paid $35K for the car out the door. so divide 35K by 15% = 30.4K and change. Please dont call me dumb..
After all its said and done I gave the dealer a cheque for $14050 + my CLS.
fyi.. Monthly FINANCE payment for the GS is $100 cheaper than my CLS. $650 instead of $750CDN for at 5% interest.

"Man you guys should read my post CAREFULLY!! asking price was $34950 and i said i paid $35K out the door!! so yes taxes and misc costs are already included."
Ok, that's more in line :-)
$35k out the door = $30k pre tax = $5k value given for CLS = implied trade-in price of $26k on the CLS net of debt.
But most importantly, you are now the supreme ruler of TAC!

since ive got both cars, i very much understand the reason he did this. however, i hope you have some warranty left just in case something is wrong or goes wrong. the gs is very solid built but there is one thing you might want to watch for. the only problem ive ever had was a broken water pump which sounds like when you drive over rocks and the car sucks them up. my friend with a gs3 has the same problem and i know its more common. other than that, it is too solid. there are some creaks/rattles, but nothing too much. overall an excellent car that will run forever. just make sure to maintain it properly and dont cheap out.

I almost went that direction about 2 weeks ago. I decided AGAINST it.
The main reason was that they are redesigned the GS, and the new one debuts soon. Like any car, even though it is a LEX, the value is going to DROP like a ROCK.
Another reason, I don't like car payments.
And a 3rd reason, the thing is a BOAT, and I read numerous stories on CLUBLEXUS about GS's getting WHOOPED by Type S's. I don't want to switch to something that doesn't have the same power as my acura!
Congrats on the purchase, navi and mark levinson are a MUST in the GS.

Water pump ey? ill keep an eye out for it. I dont think i have that problem *kow*.. i will surely notice if the symptoms are as u described. I still have 6K to go before the bumper to bumper warranty runs out. Power terrain i still have to 110K KM
It currently has 74K KM. The only "problems" that i have with this car are:
1. Stone chips on the front end.. really bad.. - repainted and clearbra soon.
2. 2 cigarette burns on the roof panel - bastard smoker.
3. worn off lettering on the stereo.
4. Minor squeaks when hitting hard bumps
5. Fogged up Headlights after washing - apparently a known lexus issue that is NOT covered under warranty. It eventually goes away
Other than that the car is "perfect"

Did the GS come with the MARK LEVINSON Stereo System

I dunno, while i love the GS430 I do feel that most lexus vehicles are bland to me. Just my opinion.

Anyway, he got all on it and I saw nothing but white smoke and smelled putrid rubber as he rocketed away...I heard the unmistakably loud BOV and just kinda .
About two weeks later I went to the local shop to get a part and the guys said that some guy whose car they built up was talking about dogging a car like mine. Fu(kers--it was mine! They put a twin-turbo set up on this guys car!!!
Quality and quick, but outta my range for now...
