Buying a car from a private party

So how does this work as far as title/registration/tags/etc. Assuming he has the title already in hand. I purchase the car from him... but how do I drive home? No temp tags from a private party obviously. Can anybody walk me through the process?

Up here, you got to get the title first, take it to DMV and they give you the title, tags, and registration right there.

Don't quote me on this, but I think the signed title will be sufficient to get you to the DMV to pick up the tags and new registration.

werd, you have so many days to go do this. I wanna say 12. Then, just drive to the Currency exchange and get your temp tags.

We just got an Infiniti I30t for my girlfriend and we drove the car for over a week with the previous owners plates on the car until we were able to get to the DMV and get new plates and have the car registered to her. I just told her to have the title, drivers license and proof of insurance with her at all times. If you have all of that information, I don't see how they could charge you with anything as there is an inferred period of time between buying the car and completetion of the transfer of ownership. Not saying it's Legally correct, but I'm sure they won't throw you in the clink for not have your car registered for a few days...

Oh.......and what car would you be trying to register....

You do that. And tell the cop there's a $20 in it if they rough you up a bit.

Have you unloaded your CL yet? And did you buy the TSX already?

Not getting a TSX anymore. Couldn't find one I wanted in the right price range.

But a fellow AZ member (local) who I know contacted me and offered me his CL-S 6-speed for an amazing price and I can't turn it down. I'm staying in the CL family for now.

Take the tags off your current vehicle, and you usually have 7 days to transfer the plates to the new car. If you get stopped, show title and bill of sale. Then, when you're at the registry, get new plates or transfer the old ones.

You can always call your insurance agent to verify any of the above info too.

No i'm not mad at all. I was gonna go with the '05 RSX but after car salesman suck ass. I basically told the sales guy at the dealership that I was definitely buying the car from there IF I bought a new car. So relax, and i'll come to you when I'm ready. He still called me every other day, sometimes twice a day asking when i'd like to come in to check out the cars.

The CL is blue on black. I would love to have white...but only if it was white on black which is near impossible to find; especially in a 6-speed.

No navi. I'm gonna go aftermarket with the Pioneer AVIC-D1 which will be released later this month.

congrats on getting a 6mt.

i'm pretty sure i'm ordering a new Legacy GT limited in the next couple days. it's a pretty quick car, probably would take my cl-s in 1st and 2nd.

191awhp/190awtq stock. stage 1 (reflash/up pipe) = 234awhp/251awtq

D1 is full double din unlike the N1. The Kenwood unit that he installed doesn't come with navi.

The D1 + XM radio = XM traffic integrated into Navi a la '05 Acura RL navigation
