Buying a car that was never serviced?
I am looking at getting an 04 TL with 35k miles, but when I check the carfax, there are absolutly no service, oil change, etc entries of any kind. Should I steer away or is it not that bad? BTW this is a CPO from an Acura dealer.
I dunno, carfax should show servicing done at an authorized dealership. otoh if the previous owner had his oil changed at say, jiffy lube, then that wouldn't show up on carfax. but i would imagine the car would have had it's 10 or 15 K or 20K scheduled servicing done at acura, no?
10 15 20k service is nothing but checking and topping off fluids basically. the owner could've done those themselves. and im sure theres plenty of cars that have had repairs but it doesnt show on carfax
Rarely take my car into the dealer for service - only major ones like the 45 (since warranty was expiring) or the timing belt one (90k?).
When I trade a car in they always ask if there are service records, I say no, did most of it myself and they ask if I have receipts. I never do and they're fine with it. Condition of the car speaks a lot to how it was taken care of. I think also as long as you don't talk about carburetors and drum brakes they believe you're resonably competent.

I've only had my car serviced at the dealer for the first 22.5K miles, and then again for the 45K.... I think there is only one entry fior the 45K service... Inskip acura service sucks, so those didn't get entered, but the 45K one at First Acura is on the Carfax.
I've got all my reciepts for all the other work like oil changes and stuff I've done myself (pollen filters, K&N etc).
If the Carfax doesn't have it, the dealer should be able to punch in the vin to check like Jesal said...

I've got 120,000 on my car and I'm sure my carfax doesn't show any dealer services other than the ~50k mile mark, but car still runs like new.
I change the Mobile1 oil and filter myself every 5k and my mechanic did the 105,000 mile service.
I can check my own fluid levels and belts, thanks.

An Acura Dealer should be able to pull up any service records with the VIN.
