I also dont think thats real. I have rarely see BMW go after somthing, let alone somthing so lame. Still funny as shit though.

Also look at cadlliac, they got rid of FWD completely and have been doing better than ever.

FWD is not needed in this segment. IMO

And that's how I view it... nothing more than a marketing tool... If acura want's to get serious about projecting a "sporty" image, sh-awd isn't the answer. RWD is IMHO... NSX and S2000 are perfect examples of a sporty H/A vehicles that can go head to head w/ BMW and the like...

I liked it when the folks over on vtec.net ripped on the rumors of the next nsx being shawd (and how it was a bad thing).

Subie has it's "awd, that's all I'll drive" deal...

Acura is moving sh-awd...

and that's fine...

But there are buyers out there that will only consider buying a "performance" vehicle if it's RWD...

Pontiac is moving toward all rwd...

Different strokes for different folks...

I find it funny that people here are actually getting upset over this. Is your life that pitiful that you have to get upset over an ad that BMW puts out?

Also I don’t think BMW needs to worry about Acura.

Yeah...BMW has "other" sporty-RWD competitors to worry about.

I predict RL sales would be up 60% and that I'd buy one, if they renamed SH-AWD to CNTAH-AWD.

that ad in particular really gets my goat, if the consumer knows what VW owns they would know that they're being complete and utter hippocrats. They own some of the most glorified pompous marques known in the automotive industry...Bentley, Lamborghini, Audi, BUGATTI (how's that for compensating).

As for the BMW ad, i love it and i agree with what most are saying, they arent targeting any make, they're just laying claim that RWD is the way. I dont really think they have to worry about any one at this point, have you seen their sales figures for the month of May just for the 3 series alone? It's mind boggling.

Seems BMW needs to watch the Speed Channel more. BMW's are getting there asses kicked by TSX's , RSX's and Mazda 6's...FWD seems to work fine in that series.

Manufacturer Points Speed GT Challenge
Mazda 22
Acura 20
Audi 11
BMW 11

It took me a few moments to see what was wrong with the rabbit..I knew something was wrong but I was like..:wtf: Anyway, it's an ad don't read so much into it .

Isn't SH-AWD limited to ~350hp? Plus RDX doesn't get full SH-AWD treatment so RL is still the only car with it. That's the rumor anyway..

IIRC, the DTS was just the Deville renamed to put it in line with the current Cadillac naming scheme. It's probably the last vestige of Cadillac's FWD past.

In terms of sheer volume they have to be one of the best selling luxury cars out there. Oh, and DTS > RL > ES330

Gotta admit though since cadlliac changed to RWD, their image has changed for the better.

and dont' forget infiniti was in the same boat...their volume sales previously were FWD I30's and G20's. Now it's RWD sporty cars.

you'd figure Acura would eventually take the hint...i mean c'mon...it's like rosanne barr is sitting on their face yet they still can't taste the shit.

Maybe when (if) they do, they'll start appearing on more of people's radars.

And an ad that implicitly conveys the sporty virtue of RWD will help BMW, but not Infiniti or Lexus? Sure, that might work.

you're kidding right?

this is from their May 2006 sales report
Total 3 Series: 10,865
Year to date: 49,795

vs.

For example Acura:
Total Car Sales: 12,677
Year to date: 60,453

I dont think they really have anything to worry about just based on this comparison they're selling 49,000+ 3 series to date!!! that's a lot of 3 series

base model? you mean 325's? nowhere near that time. and that is a "mag time" for the 330. how would you like to compare your overpriced 14.5(stick shift) to an automatic lexus's 13.6 on clublexus.com? or an '05 G35 coupe mt running 13.9(6mt.net)?

yes, thanks to 1.9 apr financing, that they didn't need to sell cars before. oh, and of course people are going to buy those 325's as status symbols.

news flash: the 330 now needs a twin turbo, to catch up with to an automatic lexus. that 3.0liter at 14.5 is maxed out.

not gonna disagree with you on that...over 90% of the 3 series on the lot and sold are autos! Why the hell would you buy a BMW (a driver's car) and drive a slush box?!?!?

As for the 1.9% financing i wasnt aware of that...typically BMW doesnt have a need to subsidize their cars.

BTW is anyone slightly put off by the negative tone of some of the ad's for BMW's and VW's lately? I'm not referring to this ad but there's the BMW ad that mocks all the corporate conformists who spout platitudes like "you presented some challenging ideas" with uncomfortable closeups of ugly people and the VW ad's that disparage buyers of other cars for shouting and overcompensating about their insecurites. Sometimes I get the idea that these companies lack anything positive to say about their own products or their just targeting mean-spirited people as prospective buyers.
Just like good ol' American politics!!! Well, not just American though....But, its a quite interesting AD indeed.

Newsflash, about 18 years ago, BMWs 6 cylinder engines were producing more hp than the IS350 does today. They don't need to "catch up", they're well ahead.

Considering an automatic 325i has 91hp less than a IS350 and 83hp less than a G35, I would say it does a pretty good job of doing the 1/4 in 14.9 (most owner drag-slips). As far as the 330i goes, I have seen it as low as 14.2 and as high as 14.5 and that is impressive when figuring the hp differences. The #'s will be really interesting this fall when the 335 comes out.
