BMW M3 vs. Lexus IS-F
Between the M3 and IS-F, I'd take the IS.
Obviously the M3 is a better driver's car, but BMWs are overrated. Everyone and their mother has one. Get something different. I still like them, and when I see a nice one I do notice. When I do see an IS-F, which is rarely, I take my time to look at it. The IS has always been a beautiful car. Still is.
If your cousin isn't worried about technical stats, why doesn't he just buy the one that feels better to him? The IS sounds like a better car for him. Comfortable seats, nice interior, and a beautiful exterior that oozes class that's badass. Ride quality is subjective. Some say the IS is hard as a rock while others say it isn't that bad.
I'm not that impressed with the style of the M3. I hate the regular 3-Series coupe headlights, and they put them on the M3 sedan. The M3 looks too much like a regular 3-Series. The interior is kind of boring too, but that goes with the "driver oriented" style, I guess.
The fact that the stacked exhaust on the Lexus is faux is pretty lame though...

I'm not and never have been a fan of the IS, I think the IS-F is just taking a turd, polishing it, and then leaving it out in the rain again. It's truly not a very nice car to look at.I suppose one good thing about the IS-F is with its huge bulging hood if you ever felt the need to run over someone it would be likely to be a kill shot rather than injure them, so I guess that huge hood does come in handy for some things. Again, BMW being a better drivers car aside, give me a C63 and it's gobs of torque any day over an M3.
If BMW's are overrated then why does everyone and their mother have one? Clearly that should state something about how good of a drivers car they are.

I doubt all of those women bought them because it outperforms all the other cars in its class. If I had to guess why, it was because the badge has a blue and white propeller on it. Maybe it was because it was "cute." Or most likely because "my neighbor bought an Audi, and I thougth this was better anyways." Enthusiasts, like you and me, made the 3-Series popular, not the everyday consumer. I do agree that BMWs usually are the best driver's car. I test drove a 335i conv. and a 328i sedan. I liked them both, they just weren't my style.
Like you, I'd take the C63 over the others too.
The C-class, IS, CTS, A4 and 3series are all damn popular. You see them everywhere.
I think its silly that you wouldnt get the high performance version of them just because the lower models are common. What would be left then? Hell most people have no clue whats the difference between a C300 and a C63 is. Even sometimes i have a hard time noticing a difference between an S4 and A4!
Just buy what you enjoy driving!

The C-Class is just as popular as the 3-Series, but the C63 looks different from a regular C300/C350. The M3's body isn't too far from the 335i/328i other than wheels and a coupe face. Lexus IS is popular too but again, the IS-F looks like the faster sibling that it is. If I'm paying more for a better car, I better get a body thats sexier than average too.

That's why I said in the beginning I would take the IS-F. I see BMWs every day. I hardly, if ever, see an IS-F.
How are you going to compare a whole brands popularity to one lexus model?
Unless you mean to say you wouldnt want an M3 since everyone has them, so instead you rather have an IS-F since not many have those? I can understand that reason as it makes more sense.
Then again i dont see many M3 sedan or IS-F around here all that often.
Are you buying the car to impress other's or to enjoy for yourself? And to add, you say you see BMW's everyday, so that's why you'd buy an IS-F? So I take it you must not see very many IS's on the road?
Out of curiosity, you wouldn't happen to own or know someone that owns a red vette would you?

The IS-F's exclusivity where I live would persuade me, but I wouldn't buy it just because of that. I already said I didn't like the BMWs (M3) style. Style meaning the whole car. I don't care for the look, don't care for the interior, etc. Nothing about the BMW (M3) excites me except for maybe the engine/exhaust note.
Honestly, not buying a car just because other people have them is retarded. All that should matter is if you like the car. why anyone would want to limit their possibilities for driving a car that they are paying for just because your neighbor has one is
Are you buying the car to impress other's or to enjoy for yourself?
I know other people that have cars just like mine. One is actually just right down the street. I knew she had it before I bought mine, and I actually talked to her about the car before I ultimately purchased mine.
And to add, you say you see BMW's everyday, so that's why you'd buy an IS-F? So I take it you must not see very many IS's on the road?
Not many. Especially not an IS-F. There is one that runs around my area, and everytime I see it,

Overrated wasn't the right word. Regardless, everyone and their dog has one. I don't think being the best driver's car has anything to do with its popularity. It does among enthusiast, but not the everyday-average buyer, who is probably 50% of those who buy them. If I had $1 for every 20 to 40 year old woman that I saw driving a 3-Series, I'd probably have enough to buy one myself.

In case you don't know majority of woman would choose the 3 pointed star over the blue and white propeller.

Difference between C63 and regular C on apperance- quad exhaust, body kits, rear diffuser, sits lower, way bigger tires/rims.

How is the situation different?
That car isn't remotely comparable to the others, just like the RS4 wasn't comparable to the M3/C63/IS-F, partly due to the fact that the starting price was something like $20k higher. If I were shopping these cars Audi would get very little consideration since the cost of a car with similar performance numbers is often $20-$30k higher.
voted M3.
but that's mostly based on looks. haven't driven either.
agree with the sentiments that at this kind of price, reliability and depreciation may not be that big of an issue.
