BMW 540 or Acura TL '04

Alright Guys...

It's high time for a car, and I'm just thinking my options through. I can get a 2001 540i 6 spd, for about $30k, with about 30k mi on it. Or I can get a slightly used TL for about $29k with about 10k miles on it. Which would you guys go for? Anyone raced a 540i with their TL??

Spend about 4K more, get a NEW TL w/ Navi, enjoy all the amenities, warranties, new car smell, etc. you WONT have with the old 540 which already has 4 yrs on it and has been who knows where.
Wait a couple of years... make some money... have something to aspire too.... buy yourself a 545i or an M5. ha!
I would only agree with the 540 if it were a newer model.

Llinley...

What year is ur 540 and how many miles did it have on it? Any problems with it yet? I'd die for the 2000-2003 E39 M5's. They can be had for about $37k, but with around 45k miles. I dunno. The 540i has got somewhere like 310 ft-lb torque. Thats a heap of torque compared with the 238 ft-lb from TL.

Come on guys, help me, out....2001 540i looks tasty to me.

I agree. As an ex-BMW owner I can say you better have some deep pockets if it's out of warranty. Whatever you think a repair or service is going to cost triple it. Then you will be happy when it only costs twice as much.

540 gets my vote. The Tl does have all the new goodies and gizmos. I've driven the 540 and 540-6 many times and for a stock car, it is simply an amazing drive. IMO both interior sizes are the same. I do like the TLs interior better. The 540 is built like a tank.

But what about the maintenance on the BMW, thats the only thing thats scaring me. is it really a big issue? i mean, brakes, radiator, maybe one clutch, any other problems than this and i dunno if i really want the 540!

Yes the maintenance will be more. FOr 1, it's a BMW. 2 it was a 60k car new. 3. it is used.
The Tl will be a better car maintenance wise but not the total opposite. The TL has issues too. BMW maintenance will cost more than Acura maintenance.

No comparison...

540... WHY???

V8 vs V6... DUH...

Got to have my power... (or at least low end grunt - torque baby)

Tough choice though...

Best of luck...

Both cars are really good in their respective classes but I'd give the nod to the 540i. And $30K is a good price for an '01 540i with 30K miles.

It's funny how you can compare these cars, they are completley different classes and price ranges...

On a side note, has anyone see the new M5 thats supposed to come out in 05?

There is a 6 series at my work, oh my god, it's so freaking sick *drool*
