Question BMW 325 engine question?

Hi guys,

Since I never found a good BMW forum like ACURAZINE, I just go ahead posting my question here and please help me out.

Recently, I noticed there's "Da Da Da" sound continuously coming from the engine of my wife's 06 BMW325. The car sometimes has that sound when I start the car in the morning or start the car after a long day work. And it gets disappeared after the car is warm up or driving a while. The car is about 7 month old and only has around 2700 miles (98% short distance stop and go). For such $$$ car, It's really annoying and pissed me off!! At least my CLS never has this kind of problem to me (knock the wood). Is the problem called "engine knocking"??

Actually I am not really familiar with cars and I don't want some bullshit answer from dealer when I bring the car back to them on this weekend. Plz tell me what's wrong with the car. Thank you so much!!

btw, I want to have bmw dealer also change the oil for the car becuz I just don't feel like to keep the first break-in oil for that long period. I also want to do the oil change the way I treat my CLS 5 month/7500 miles.

Can they refuse to do the service because they say the car only need the service after 12000 miles? If so, then the 4yr free maintenance warranty is meaningless to me and what should I do to defend my right?

it's hard to know what the problem is since you really only described the noise as "da da da" but if it's something that needs to be fixed, it wont matter what the mileage is, BMW will fix it under warranty unless it's something you or your wife did but i really doubt that's the case.

Sounds like the car is fine to me if its only on cold start ups.. You might of just never noticed the sound untill now. I have a 330 and it has a pretty different cold idle sound. About the oil change. You are allowed your free oil change when the on board computer says so or once a year (from the date of purchase). They will not do any before that for free so if you want one now expect to pay about $75.

yeah.. that sounds normal.. It is better than my CLS ticks all day long.. You know, the ticking coming from driver side engine bay. many of my friends hear it and I have to explain to them that the all day long annoying ticking is normal LOL.

There are tons of ticking threads on CL-S sub-forum.

I just crank up that sh*tty ( no high no low) BOSE system to cover the continuous ticking..

Why don't you do oil change yourself? Good thing about Bimmer is the oil filter is located in the engine bay where you can reach it by just popping the front hood. Go get a oil extractor to suck out all the oil and change your oil filter by simple popping your front hood. It takes less than 15 min and no need to get under the car.

I personally do not believe in 10k oil change interval. I do one oil change between every factory interval, so my engine gets fresh oil and new filter every 5000 miles.

BTW, bimmerforums is a very good bimmer forum.

From my experience, Bimmer engine can be noisy when it is cold, but it is excellent when it warms up. warm engine rev freely and smoothly all the way up to 8000RPM.

Your engine noise is normal and not a big deal.

BMW free maintenance program is made to follow BMW's guidelines that are in the manual. Just because YOU think it should be different doesnt mean they will change anything for free. They will change the oil for you early if you wanted but you have to pay. You have no right in other words to challenge them and you should have known this before buying the car.

Like mentioned, do the oil change yourself. Its VERY easy on BMWs.

Anyways try www.e90post.com

Doing an oil change on an e90 really is very easy. If you're concerned about the oil it shouldn't take you more than 30 minutes.

Yes, it is only on cold start up and disappeared after warm up. I never have a German car in the past and it's my first one. I dunno...I just feel german engine is a little louder than JP cars.

That is the real sound of a engine. lol

I drive Lexus a few time and hated it, it is like driving electric car. no sound of joy at all.

You should change your bimmer every 12K miles or once a year. The 325 takes up 7 quarts of oil. Actually all european cars hold more oil than japanese ones, so all euro cars have pretty much the same oil change interval.
