Here it is!!! BMW 128 vs Nissan 370z vs Hyundai Genesis vs Mustang GT. What car is the best for $30,000?
I wish they had included Camaro V-8.

I didn't read it, but wouldn't this be a no-brainer? (370Z FTW?).
BMW has the badge and a nice package, but IIRC the power from the 128 isn't competitive with Mustang/Genesis/Z.
The Genesis is a leap forward for Hyundai, but it seems the manual tranny isn't up to par and it's nanny-limited to a lower-than-expected performance. Weight is also high.
Mustang GT looks improved for '10, but it's also still a portly vehicle with less than ideal suspension design. Still a pretty good value though.
So, 370Z wins IMHO, if this comparison is for the aspects of getting a fast car for $30k that I'd not mind driving day to day. It really is a nice improvement over the 350.

Well, I'll be damned. The 128 was deemed the "winner."
Though I will say kudos to the writer/drivers for attempting to remain wholly un-biased in determining their choices. It was a very good read. They maintained a pretty neutral attitude through the whole article.

When a low-performing or overpriced car 'wins' a comparo without a good writeup and explanation, it bugs the crap out of me. When the article is as informative and honest as this one though, it really helps.
As a pure performer, the 370Z completely annihilates the competition here, but on a lot of intangibles, including cosmetics, comfort (this varies a lot person to person), interior layout, motor noise (some want quiet, some want a wail), one could easily see someone choosing the 'Stang or the 128i depending on their personal viewpoint.
I stand by the 370Z on this one, even though my closest driving experiences have been :
'08 335i Sedan (I'm told the 1-series is similar, but lighter and more agile).
Various Mustangs, the latest being an '06 GT (this is supposed to be more of the same, with improved styling/interior).
'06 350Z Convertible 6SPD w/'Sport' package(?)
I haven't driven a Genesis, and have no RWD Hyundai experiences to compare to, so I'm questionable on that. I judge the 370Z based on reports that it's a leaner, faster, improved 350Z, which should be doubly so comparing the '09 370Z Coupe to an '06 350Z 'Vert.
Good post, OP.

The 370Z would have been my off the cuff choice as well. I really love the car and its VAST improvement over the 350.
As far as design. I really like all 4, the new Z and the new Stang coming up tops.
And interiors...again the new Z and the new Stang impress. The bimmer is more of the same bangle interior. It works better in some designs than others, but isnt as good as bimmer interiors of yore. The genesis is an ok interior...the center stack doesnt do much for me.

Personally, Nissans have never really "done it" for me (even the Zs, sorry) and I dislike BMWs due to the asshole stigma that goes with them. That, and when Car & Driver does any sort of comparison test that has a BMW, you don't even need to read it, it's GUARANTEED which car will win....ALWAYS the BMW.
For me the choice would be between the Mustang and the Genesis Coupe. If I was looking for balls-out performance, gimme a 'stang GT convertible. For something a little more sedate, I'd take a Genesis Coupe. But having driven none of these cars, I can't seriously comment on any of them.

Genesis Coupe. Unproven but gaining ground. I wouldnt kick it out of bed but its not totally hot looking to me. semi hot.
Nissans. Go drive a Z...240, 300, 350...Nissans have a lot of soul. Course I have been a nissan owner for the last 4 years and an old truck at that. But they usually deliver on the goods. nissans are kinda the japanese brand with a little bad attitude thrown in the mix.
BMW. Yeah they have the asshole stigma...(in la I find people who drive older maximas to be worse) But drive one. There is something magic about them. They just "feel" right when your behind the wheel and carving some twisties.

The article needs a summary. And since it was a comparison, silly me kept looking for a ranking and detailed stat comparisons
. At least skipping to the end and reading the last two paragraphs told me who they thought was the best. The article immediatly following that one looked more promising, but given how this article was written, I passed.

Maybe it's because i just bought a BMW, but I don't and never did get the whole asshole stigma associated with them. They are great cars and people know it. What is wrong with knowing you have a great car?

A lot of bimmer drivers get pegged just because they bought a bimmer.

Posting one good article does change the fact you are an ignorant moron. Pointing that out has nothing to do with how many "years" old I am.

Well, there's a difference with us usually. Whenever anyone posts on AZ that they bought a BMW, Infiniti, Audi, etc. instead of an Acura, we don't hold any grudges (usually) or get negative. But for example, a while back I did a photoshoot with my TL, another TL and a 3-Series. When I posted the pics on AZ, everyone said how nice the BMW was. When my friend posted the pics on e90post, almost everyone there put down the Acuras. It's the whole "stereotypes have some truth to them" thing.

In all honesty, those two TL's looked so bad next to that Bimmer. However, it still doesn't justify all the put downs from those guys.
But once again, those two TL does look terrible next to that Bimmer, and I am not really a Bimmer guy too..lol

For all practical, logical purposes, an Accord/Camry would be the best choice for a car. Anything beyond that is a subjective/emotional purchase decision so I can't see how personality doesn't come into play.
As far as BMW, my only question is: why isn't Sarlacc driving one?![Tomato](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/tomato.gif)
