Which is better........a Jetta or RSX(non S)????????

The Toyota dealer has had my sisters Celica for 4 weeks now, and we still have not gotten it back It has taken them over 4 weeks to change the motor because of thier fuck up The cam gear was making noise and was leaking oil, so they changed it.........3 days later, the engine blew So now my parents want to get rid of it today when it is done for either a Jetta or RSX non type S. I think the ketta would be better for an 18 year old girl........they are both around the same price

I think a Jetta is better........she'd get the 1.8T, so its probably just as fast as the RSX!!!!!

doesn't mean anything anymore. Go for the jetta, the 1.8t is a sweet and can be a quick car. I've driven both and honestly if i had to pick either i'd take teh jetta, it's a little nicer in my opinion if she's not getting a rsx-s

As the owner of both an Acura and a VW, my recommendation is to get the Acura.

Why? First, I think the Acura cars are built better. The Jetta while a german car, is built in Mexico! Second, you get the same treatment or customer service with a RSX that you do with an RL. Meaning: you get treated like you own a luxury car. My observations of VW dealer service departments (and if you go to any VW owner website) are that they can give 2 shits about who you are and what car you drive. This is not always the case (the dealer I go to for my Acura also sells and services VW so they are better than other VW dealers I've used).

True, the build quality of VW has gotten better but in my honest opinion the quality of the "ownership experience" is much better with Acura than it is with VW.

As a matter of fact, I was at the dealer last saturday, picking up my Acura after having the seatback clips TSB done and a woman came into the dealership frantic because something fell off of her 02 Jetta (she said it was a week old) and she ran over it on the highway. Turns out that the belly pan fell off! I had this happen with my 98 Jetta and it seems to be a common problem. So food for thought.

This guy I know at work has a jetta and he hates it, too many electrical problems. His latest is that everytime he turns the steering wheel all the way, his horn honks.

On top of the difference between customer service, look at the warranty period and cost of replacement parts. VW parts are expensive! 20K mile warranty? WTF? Although they include the oil changes, here is case in point of level of customer service: VW gives you a bus ticket, Acura either drives you whereever or gives you a car. VW techs get dirt in the car, Acura vacuums the car.

I traded in a Passat 1.8T for the Acura and my g/f still has her Jetta 1.8T, but wants to get rid of it. For either of us we would not hesitate between deciding on another VW product or an Acura product. That's why I look at the Phaeton and laugh. Sure it has lots of bells and whistles, but it's still a VW.

i dont know why but vw jettas and girls go well together. either way you cant lose to much

i think after coming from a celica the rsx will give the same car but a bit refined. the jetta will be completely different considering its a totally different class and it has 2 more doors...

IMO, its hit or miss. I had a passat b4 I got my TL and the car ran like a champ. I had no problems what so ever. My brother on the other hand had a Jetta and did have electrical problems with his steering column and his tranny.
I ur getting it new then ur covered by warranty so it doesn't matter as much.
IMO, as far as interiors go, the Jetta has the RSX beat hands down. The interior is very clean, and looks like it belongs in a more expensive car.

I think that the new Jetta has an excellent build, and we test drove it, and it felt nice........I also drove a regular RSX and I wasn't impressed.

I have a base model 5speed rsx and I am very happy with it. Here are the downfalls of the car: suspension is not great. The ride is very firm and can grow tiresome. You feel every bump on the rode. I have had the car over a year so trust me I know. Other than that the tranny is very good, interior is excellent and the engine has some nice punch to it. On the highway, you will notice that the rsx is much more quiet than the old integra. Overall, I would say the rsx, only becasue I am not that impressed with the jetta. Good luck!

Don't go with the Jetta. I have 3 friends with Jetta's - An 00, 01 and an 02... Here's a list of some of their problems:

Horn stopped working, radio stopped working, passenger side door handles stopped working, pain was peeling off two of them, etc...

The list goes on and on. I would never own one after hearing their horror stories. While this may not be representative of all Jetta's, I remeber seeing the Jetta as almost dead last with initial problems

Driving it for 5 minutes, and owning it for a few years makes a big difference... Not saying Jetta's are terrible, but I think having the Acura will give you less headaches

to answer this without any question the VW GLI Vr6 is by far faster than the crappy rsx i hate the rsx it looks like someone rammedd it from the back and the front its too short and ugly the Vr6 comes with 200hp to the ground and 194 FT PDS OF TORQUE may i stress the torque part!!!!!!it would outrun the rsx by far and would outrun our 2nd gen cl's as well!!!

The Jetta VR6 is not any faster than a RSX-S or a CL-S... BTW, the best stats I found for the Jetta GLI (with the 200hp VR6) and the 6-speed Manual transmisison is 0-60 in 6.8 seconds and 1/4 in over 15 seconds. Still not faster than a well driven RSX-S or even a auto CL-S. (And I am not even mentioning the 6-speed CLS)

Also, check this out: http://www.vw.com/jetta/tech.htm

The 2002 GLI VR6 with the 6-speed manual has an estimated 0-60 time of 7.9 seconds according to VW. I am sure it's conservative, but FAR from a CLS or RSX-S

And the RSX is far from crappy. It is almost unanimously regarded as top of it's class

I agree with cusdaddy. I like the Jetta, and I'm sure the new VR6 with 6spd is quick, but it ain't no RSX-S or CL-S for that matter in terms of acceleration. In terms of interiors I do like the interior of the Jetta over the RSX b/c I like the cleaner lines and classier look as opposed to RSX's "edgy" interior. But the CL-S's interior is better still than the jetta's.

Don't get the auto RSX, I had one of those as a loaner for a few days and I nearly fell asleep waiting for it to start moving from a stop. That thing just has 0 torque. My friend has a stick RSX-P though and while I've never driven it as a passenger I could feel that it gets more power to the wheels then the auto. Then again its your sister and I dunno if she wants stick or even cares about speed. The RSX handles decently (but still has shitty OEM Acura tires) stock, its not a bad car. It beats the Jetta in looks I think.

VW makes solid cars, but so does Acura. The Acura purschasing experience is far superior to that of VW, i know, my sister owns a Beetle. Go for the RSX no doubt.

From a owner of both an acura and vw jetta, and also a potential rsx-s owner I would go with the rsx. My 95 jetta is such a pos I dread the days I still have to drive it. I am in the srvc dept at least once a month. The latest and weirdest thing I had to change was my tumbler (yea what is that). Well that's the key insert handle thingy where you open your door from. That cost me $160 and I wouldn't recommend anyone buying a jetta, go for the RSX. You'll save alot more over the long run esp with maintenance, trust me I KNOW.

i wasnt comparing the cl-s to the vr6 i was comparing the 1st gen cl 3.0 sorry....and i was stating that the rsx was ugly as sin!!!!
and the vr6 with the supercharger and all will beat the new cl-s 6spd by far beleive me i was in atlanta with my freind matt with his cl-s and we raced the vr6 with the comptech supercharger and he blew us out of the water!!!!!
i just like vw which will probably be my next car the torque is better stock than both the cls and the rsx-s!!!!

I have worked on both of these cars, and I'd have to say HANDS DOWN to the RSX. My cousin and a few friends who own Jetta's have nothing but problems with them, from minor to major, and the ones that I have had at my shop are poorly put together.

As both an Acura owner and a VW owner, I would definitely say stay away from VW!!!

They may drive and handle great, but they are plagued with all sorts of problems--especially related to the plastic-on-plastic inside and the electronics!!!

Not to mention that if you buy the RSX, you're still buying a "luxury" car and get treated as such. VW dealers do not have the flexibility to go the extra mile to keep their customers happy like Acura can. I had transmissions replaced in both my Acura and my VW this year, both under warranty. I had a loaner car from acura but VW left me in the lurch.

Go with the RSX if you don't want stupid little problems all of the time. My VW Beetle, while it drives and handles great always has some little stupid problem or something falling off of it. It's never anything earth shattering but the trips to the dealer and auto supply store are getting tiresome. If you end up going with the VW anyway, keep a close eye on the oil, VW's consume a lot of oil for some reason.

You think you had problems, when my Jetta needed a motor it took the dealer eleven weeks (that's 77 days) to do it and they could have cared less. I was so mad I immediately sold it for my TL and have been treated like gold ever since by Tischer Acura here in Md.

tell her to get a GTI even the 1.8T is pretty quick for a 4-cylinder.
(plus the bottom end of those motors are like bulletproof)(you can NOS the hell out of them and they'll laugh at you ).

Once when I was going to my g/f's there was this hot chick (no i didn't flirt) she gave me the let's run signal. (she had a older GTI tricked out)(neons, pipe, and a few other little mods)(it was black) I got my smoked and I know she didn't have the VR6 cause they didn't offer the VR6 until the last about 5 years.

I would go with the jetta. I see it more as a girls car. It's reliable quick gets hood gas milage and is fun and safe she could get like traction control. The build of the rsx would probibly be better but have here drive them and see what she likes better
