Best driving postion to sit
Hello All,
I would like to know what is the best driving position to sit and drive a base 2008 Acura TL. This has been my first car of an elite segment and from past two months i have been trying to figure factors such as best visual angle, position of seat and leg on how much it should cover the accelerator, during braking how much should the leg cover the brake etc...
Though i have been driving..but i have not been able to choose my best sitting position on the TL
Please give your suggestions,
Thanks,
PK

In my opinion you want your elbows and knees to be slightly bent when holding the steering wheel and using the pedals. Comfortable yet allowing you to stay alert and steering quickly if needed.

I sit so that when I put either hand on top of the steering wheel my wrist is on the steering wheel. Thats how close I'll sit. Hands are at the 9.5 2.5? position. As for the pedal, I cant really think how my foots on it but I'd guess where that ball on your foot is behind your big toe? about that much is touching the pedal? I cant really envision this haha Just have a good grip on it. If you have a manual and wanna do heal-toe, ask someone else, since I dont have a manual and I've never done that.

Seems to be a very subjective topic. My answer is whatever makes you the most comfortable in your seat.
I say take a nice long (2+ hour) cruise and let me know how you feel after that drive. If your ass isn't numb, it's probably a good position.

at the thread.
But to answer seriously: whichever position is most comfortable for you. I sit bolt upright with hands at 3 and 9 (makes it easier to control the car in turns....autocross-style), and as Ken said above, just enough bend in the arms and legs to be comfy.
That, or the Gangsta Lean.

Meh, it took me a while to get a good seating position in the Acura. I think these cars are designed for people with long legs and no upper torso, at least the 2nd gen TL felt that way for awhile. Low roofline, when you have the seat adjusted so you can reach the pedals than your arms are too bent and vise versa, but there never seemed to be a good middle ground. All it would have taken is a telescoping steering wheel to solve it all.
Now I'm just used to it, but honestly I never feel like I'm in the most ideal driving position in this car.

I can't believe this is even a topic? or a discussion? Get in the car and see what position feels most comfortable. Everyone has different driving positions!

My biggest thing I learned to correct was the angle of my seat back. I found that on long drives, my upper back would get sore because the seat back was reclined ever so slightly too much. Also, make sure the height of your seat isn't too low or high. Mine was too low one time and it resulted in serious foot cramps.
Lastly, make sure your steering wheel is in a position that's comfortable enough as that can affect your overall posture. On longer drives, I'm weird and tend to sit with my hands resting on my lap, holding the steering wheel towards the bottom. Works for me and results in no arm stress.
I was about to go and quote that same video.

How to find the best Driving Position.
1.) Get in your car and start it.
2.)Do not touch anything.
3.)Wait for your mom to arrive out of the kitchen (blasphemy) and sit in the Drivers seat.
4.) Tell her where you want to go, then tell her to get back into the kitchen.
5.) You're 29 and have been driving for 13 years, are you seriously asking this question.
6.) Go ride the bus so more people don't die from other stupidity.

Oh man..LOL..that was hilarious. I am sure everyone has enjoyed commenting as much i enjoyed reading it. From good suggestions to very good suggestions the range has been good.
So here is the deal... As far as time goes..i have been only driving LHD since i was raised in India...i drove in India for like 10 years..but four years being in the US i never bought a car as i stayed close to campus.
So coming here for a Masters in Industrial Engineering and becoming a Manufacturing Process Engineer..and being through tough times in recession..after working for 1 and half year i could afford a car and I landed up buying a 2008 Acura TL. Unknowingly, it is my first car in the USA.
So for some one who did not want to compromise anything less than a BMW 3 series..or a C 300..2008 Acura Tl was a good choice as it did hold more value for money and was worth it.
The places where i get no judgement on the car is making a right turn..how far i am from the curb. How much do i raise my seat...etc.
But still i am highly impressed with the enthusiasm shown by everyone. I am sure as time goes by, i will definitely take some long drives and get the hang of it.
Cheers,
PK

Honestly though, I really don't understand how hard it would be to transition from RHD to LHD, especially since you've lived here for awhile now. Granted I'm not an experienced RHD driver, but I assume the feel and knowing distances from curbs, cars, etc. would be relatively the same. Dude, how short are you if you can't even see the curb out your drivers side window? Heres my suggestion, buy some phone books to sit on.
Edit: Aren't cars in India RHD? I misread your comment. If you're used to driving LHD in Inida, then whats the problem?

PK, are you sure it was LHD in india? if so, its LHD in America as well. I'm fairly certain India is RHD, as for the "british" influence.
The best place to go for all your questions is in the 3G TL section, as i'm sure you already know. What I would do is take a few minutes, sit in the car, and adjust everything to where you feel comfortable about your ability to react to a situation while remaining comfortable. This includes, adjusting the Steering column, left and right side mirrors, rear view mirror and seat.
Then, take a short drive to see how comfortable (or uncomfortable) you are and maybe make some slight adjustments so everything is in the right place.

I'm hoping this thread is a joke because if your too dumb to figure out what is comfortable for you then you should just kill yourself.

In my case i slide the seat as far back as it goes, but that wasnt enough for me, I then took the seat out of the car and made the track go back 2 more inches.
But i must say this isnt something you should ask, its something YOU should take the time to find what position YOU like
