Battery life in the woods
Battery life in the woods
Hopefully I've chosen the correct place for this post.
My friends and I are going camping and are thinking of either renting a generator or using my TSX as a power source for music. We won't be having a rave, probably just a simple boombox requiring a car adapter plug.
How long can I expect my battery to last before I'm stuck in the woods? Will it last for 3 nights of camping or should I get a generator?
Thx for your input.

Depends on how old your battery is.
Depends on what type of battery life your battery has had.
Depends on the temperature.
Depends on the type of power demand your "boombox" needs.
Why not buy some D cells and throw them in the "boombox" and call it a day

TSX batteries are kinda weak in the first place. I would say that after 3 nights of running the boombox off the car will leave you pretty stranded unless you periodically start the car to get some juice back in the battery.
Some of those adapters have a battery save function that shuts them down when they drain the battery to a certain point so you have the juice to start the car and charge back up.

if you need to ask, chances are its a better idea to not do it.
if you wouldnt mind investing in a car battery recharger for future use, you could just buy one of those and be worry free about boomboxes, breakdowns, etc etc.

OK, thx for the input guys.
I'm going to use my baby as a last resort, and just start her up every morning to charge her.
Is that sufficient, or should I charge her every few hours? and how long do I need to keep her running?

I wouldn't use the car battery for hours at a time, three nights in a row. Just use a battery powered stereo system.
Like someone else suggested, buy a pack of batteries and throw 'em in. After all, you're camping, not throwing a rave, and the people camping in the sites around yours likely won't want really loud music w/ super bass blasting all night anyway. unless they're invited.

it's cheaper than getting a generator. if you burn up batteries it's no big deal.
