Battery Charger

Not many threads on them

Any suggestions on what to buy? I'd like to keep it under 100 dollars unless there are some that are worth more. Right now I've just looked at Sears and Kragen and really have no idea about any of the ones that are being sold. I loved the one I had at my shop but that fucker was expensive.

Are you looking for just a general charger with overload protection? Or are you looking for something to trickle charge the Mustang. Did you want something that would supply a 200 amp boost on occasion?

I'd go with this one at Kragen. I've got one myself and it works well. The jumpstart setting has bailed me out a couple times too.

If you're looking for a charger / "maintainer", go with the Battery Tender Plus.

I've had my Viper on it for years and not a single issue. It comes highly recommended from several higher end car owners and mechanics.

The Mustang actually holds a charge really well. I have an optima in there and start it about once a month. The thing never dies.

My g/f's M6 has a pain in the ass drain that I can't seem to find. It isn't driven too much either but I wanted something to trickle charge it when it does die. Plus I've had various other cars in the driveway that, at one time or another, needed a full battery charge.

In that case I'd probably go with a basic 10 amp charger. I think most of them are "smart" chargers that won't harm the battery due to overcharging. I have a few of the older Sears branded chargers that really work great. I love my Solar unit as well, but it's more of a commercial unit and probably overkill for what you're looking for.

There are two friends that store their cars at my place for the winter. One is a Boxster, and the other an S2K. Both have a type of trickle charger that plugs into the cigarette lighter and are powered by a 110 outlet. They seem to work very well, and after four-five months, each car fires right up. I don't know if they would work in your girlfriends car, and probably won't charge a low battery, but they seem to work well maintaining a battery for prolonged periods.

I'll look into that as well. After a good drive the car holds a charge well but I don't think it gets charged fully. Then in a week or two it is back to not starting. Really annoying but I don't have the time to spend figuring out what is wrong with the stupid electrical.
