Barabus TKR trying to take over as world's fastest car...
Barabus...? Thought it was a typo...but, yup.

The Bugatti Veyron is no longer the world's fastest car. Today — following a number of teasers and leaks — Barabus officially unveiled the TKR: a new 1005 horsepower supercar the automaker says is capable of doing zero to 60 mph in 1.67 seconds. What's more, the car reportedly has a top speed of 270 mph — nearly 20 more than the Veyron. Power comes from a 6.0 liter V8 twin-turbocharged with dual intercoolers. Details remain sparse, but the automaker says it will sell the car for £360,000, which should translate to around $500,000, using typical automotive market conversion rates. It's worth noting that Barabus sometimes refers to the car as being able to hit 60 mph in "under 2 seconds," rather than the stated 1.67. Even so, there is still some doubt among enthusiasts if such a figure is even possible. Nonetheless, the car is on display at the 2006 British International Motor Show, and we expect to get more details in the near future. The TKR is said to have been in development for the last 10 years. The car is to be made in Italy and the power plant is built in the United Kingdom. Worldwide volume is projected to be 300-400 cars over the estimated three-year production run. (Note: we apologize for the low-resolution images — Barabus has been very slow to release press material for the car).

1) It looks like a smaller, ghetto-er saleen.
2) I'm calling on the 0-60 time until it's reviewed by a 3rd party.
3) That engine bay doesn't suit a $670,000 car.
4) Barabus???
5) I wouldn't trust my life to a car buit by anyone that looks as dorky as that guy.
All these "Veyron-killer" cars have me laughing. They're not even on the same playing field. The Veyron is the USS Enterprise, this thing is a Korean Taepodong.

Three Wheelin'
I'm calling BS on this one.
Some small startup company out of nowhere, has the $$$ and brains to build a world class car like this. Yeah right.
1. Looks like a mini ghetto Saleen - the "ultimate" supercar shouldn't have to crib off another supercar. "New" supercar makers like Pagani, Koneigsegg and Ascari have come up with their own styling.
2. I'm willing to bet that 99.5% of us car enthusiasts have never heard of Barabus. Not to mention that no news of this car, or the company has ever been leaked (to my knowledge) until today.
3. It might "theoretically" have the power to get up to 270mph, but what about aerodynamics. I doubt this company had access to the appropriate wind tunnels, and aerodynamic factors that need to be accounted for when travelling in excess of 200mph, much less 270mph. Heck, VW boss VW Pixxxxxxstrider had to ask Ferrari for some help with getting aerodynamic data. I'm sure "Barabus" had access to that kind of thing
4. The Engine bay looks like it belongs in a CRX.
5. The 0 - 60 time has gotta be bogus, because that thig would have to be AWD AND have unbelievable traction off the line. The only other road going, streetable car that I've read about that could post so low a 0 -60 time was the Lingenfelter 'vette that was tested in MotorTrend a few years ago (1.9seconds), and even that had cheater slicks on it.

I have no doubt the 0-60 time is complete .
After watching the video of the Veyron spinning all 4 wheels to 100mph, it's obvious that it's completely traction-limited. Furthermore, the Veyron is using the widest street tires ever made for a production car - 265mm fronts and 365mm rears. The TKR has no hope of getting to 60 in 1.67 seconds if it's only driving the rear wheels.
The Veyron does 0-60 in 3 seconds, for an acceleration rate of 8.9 m/s2.
For the TKR to get to 60 in 1.67 seconds, it would need to accelerate at 16.1 m/s2, or just about twice as fast as the Veyron.
Remember, acceleration = force / mass
So if the TKR can accelerate at twice the rate of the veyron, it would either need to weigh 1/2 as much or have twice as much power. Since we know it has 1005hp, it would need to weigh 800kg (1763lbs) to reach those acceleration figures. This is assuming it can magically get the traction to get that power to the ground with only RWD.
Edit: Vishnu beat me to it.

Some tidbits from the car info section:
Barabus Sportscars, a specialty engine and vehicle manufacturer has created the most powerful supercar with the launch of the Barabus TKR. The TKR is designed to compete with the world's fastest, best handling, most luxurious grand touring cars, whilst providing a distinctly European driving experience for the fortunate few who will own one.
A true supercar, the TKR is capable of over 200 miles per hour. Zero-to-60 time is under two seconds. When designing the TKR, Barabus put drivability on a wide variety of road conditions high on the list of objectives. And, while the TKR would be at home on any racetrack, it is also a car that can be driven with pleasure on motorways, autobahns and back roads.
The car is to be made in Italy and the power plant is built in the United Kingdom. While the TKR is a true Italian supercar, the vehicle itself reflects a "best-in-practice" philosophy, where Barabus has incorporated superior components from around the globe in order to manufacture the best vehicle possible. The TKR utilizes ceramic brakes as well as numerous high technology pieces from companies located in Italy.

I'm so tempted to re-name this thread. I hate the title... it's not the worlds fastest until it proves itself in a REAL test...
So sad when misleading marketing/news can cause people to post with thread titles like it was. I fixed the title
From:
Barabus TKR taking over as world's fastest car...
To:
Barabus TKR trying to take over as world's fastest car...
It's bad enough we have to be force fed commercials everywhere we go. Lets try and read between the lines next time
I'll gladly rename this thread once they have actually proven the car...
