Whats wrong with Health Insurance companies thoroughly reviewing a claim? You think they'd spend $1200 per day on something they didn't get the chance to review and question? From the amount of replies to this thread, you can see that not everyone is thinking the same about this. Some want us to blame the kid, the father, the health care insurance company, the car, etc. Its controversial, so they have every right to look into it.
OK, Everyone here is speculating on this case (including myself) without reading up on the facts:
(On the evening of January 6th, 2010) Casey was trauma hawked by helicopter to the St. Mary's Hospital trauma center in WPB, FL with only one vital sign, a heart beat! A quick CAT scan and testing revealed severe head trauma sending him into the first of two surgeries for hemicraniectomy (skull cap removal) on both his right side and left side. After recuperating in ICU for a month, Casey was upgraded and flown to Shepherd's Center in Atlanta, GA for intensive therapy for the next several months. Casey is now back in South Florida to continue his progress at Chatsworth at PGA. Although still in a coma and suffering from a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Casey is alive and working hard toward recovery!

You guys can't make any more logical arguements without resorting childish insults, like: "stupid". The problem is, I've been to florida. Not a state with the brightest kids thats for sure. Anyway no need to waste my time with you, the cubans will run y'all into the gutter, and cocaine you up.

Whats up with RDX owners?

And yet the title isnt even relevant to the actual point of the story. Its about the insurance saying the kid isn't getting any better and no longer paying for his bills. No who's at fault for a freak accident (I say freak because non of us know what actually happened).

Long story short, a good friend of mine had a similar brain injury almost 2 years ago. Having a nurse to take care of him from 7:00am-7:00pm was almost $750 a day. That doesn't include any supplies, food, machines, etc.

The "kid" did nothing wrong. There are plenty of 18yr olds racing much quicker cars than a high 12 second Vette and never getting hurt.
I got my car when I was 17 and was going 12.60s by the time I turned 18. I literally have made hundreds of passes and though I've had a couple close calls (spinning the tires at 80mph on street tire night brings back memories) but not a single wreck.
It's obvious something happened at the big end. The brake lights did not come on. One of two things happened:
He failed to hit the brakes.
The brakes failed.
The car was only going 108mph according to the timer which was probably 110mph or so in reality. I regularly stopped from 129+mph in a freaking Buick with 10.8" disks and rear drum brakes. I think a Vette could handle a 110-20mph stop just fine lol.

That is part of your subject that was NEVER brought up in the article. It is something YOU made up and is irrelevant to the discussion here! Why do you feel it necessary to talk about something that isnt true or stated ANYWHERE in the article?

That's silly. Everybody is doing it all the time. I made up nothing and everything I wrote is certainly relevant to the subject.

It's a pretty safe guess that you either did not own a car when you were young or it was not the car that you wanted. Now you hate every "kid" that has a nice car. I think you need help.

Wow, its so surprising that all these kids on a car forum think that kids are the greatest drivers in the world and should all be given Veyrons to take to the track!

Not what I said neither and it is doesn't matter at all. The source of the story is that he had a wannabe-cool dad with poor judgment that gave him too much car for the kid and obviously crashed it be his lack of experience / skills. Now insurance or not, everybody is paying the high price, thanks to the dad's stupidity.
And nice use of a double negative, you brilliance and intelligence above all of ours really shines through again and again...

^Obviously crashed it because of his lack of experience/skills? Really? Where did you find that information? Do you think he WANTED to crash his Vette?
Don't you wish that your dad would have gotten you a Vette when you were his age? Don't lie.
I'm half your age and I'm understanding the story better than you are.

A Honda Civic will do 108mph eventually. Is that too much car too?

Don't put words in my mouth!
I said again: " A Honda Civic will do 108mph eventually. Is that too much car too? "
What's the difference in going 108mph in a Civic vs a Vette, other than the Vette will outhandle and outstop the Civic and it will hold up better in a crash, making it the safer car at that speed.

I feel bad for the kid and the family.
Something must have gone wrong going down the track. The kid had been driving the car for two years, it is not like he didn't know where the brake pedal was.

You can't tell me you didn't think you were the shit when you first got a car. Everybody goes through that phase. This kid had parents fortunate to buy him a nicer car considering his age.
I valet cars in a nicer part of Raleigh and I park S4s, C63s, and M6s who are being driven by kids younger than I am. Do I agree with the parents decision to buy them that kind of car? I didn't pay for it, so I don't really care. People are always going to make decisions that you don't agree with. That's life
Btw I would take a Caparo T1 over a Veyron on a track any day
