Thanks for the feedback folks. I think I am going to hold off on the coupe - we are going to wait for six months until after the baby is born and then see where we go from there. If my wife is ok with the TL being the primary people mover and doesn't mind taking the baby in and out (the TL is a pretty low car), then I can get my coupe.
But if not - then I'll just have to get something that she wants and then I'll have to just heavily modify my TL....either way, it'll be a win win!

Why not get the wife a crossover/suv, and you get a coupe? Putting infant seats in can be a pain, but it only takes a second to click them in. When you go out as a family you take the other vehicle.

I cant believe noones mentioned the Acura ZDX
its like a Coupe-U-V
its sport and sleep like a coupe but with none of the benefits of owning a larger car and has enough room for one (1) baby in the back seats
ur welcome.

They need a lot to keep the content at times.
But, go for the coupe. Get it while you're still young and can pull it off. The baby will be fine in the back. Just drive safe.

The rear doors are horrendous and slope way to much...You smack the shit out of your head every time you lean in to put your kids in the seat......and you would smack their heads, too.

Not to mention it's Big $'s. I know when we had our first baby, something like that wasn't event remotely in the budget.

on to the next one...
FWIW - I'm 30, have always owned a coupe, was shopping for a G37S, found out the wife had one in the oven, bought an M35x.
Not only would an infant carrier be difficult to get in and out of the back seat of a coupe, the trunk in a G37 is VERY small - you can barely get two sets of golf clubs in there. Definitely a smart move to wait and then asses your needs.

Cute kids I have identical twin boys that are 1.
Those Chicco key fits are great...I'm actually trying to sell both of mine right now. We upgrading to Britax convertibles...but we are keeping them rear facing...and that eats space.
When they go forward facing, I'll more inclined to put them in my Challenger.
I have long legs...and with a stick I refuse to put a car seat behind my driver seat until its front facing.

I didn't want convertibles, so we kept them in the Chicco seats for as long as possible, then switched to those Recaros (wish I have Recaro for myself ).

The Britax we got look more or less like your recaros. But we still have them rear facing for the time being.

Why not sell the Accord and TL? That'll get your wife something comfortable for the kids, and you can get yourself the G.
But if you're that worried about transferring car seats, why not just buy two? Eliminates the problem, and IMO well worth the extra cost if that means you and the wife both get what you want.

Someday, an RS6 Avant+
Honestly, having been through all of those stages with kids (mine are now 10, 13, 16) I can offer this:
As said earlier, one kid is not much but the stuff you will want to tote around will take up space. A nice sporty wagon will do the job very well (think Acura TSX Sportwagon, 3 or 5 series, Subaru Outback, or maybe an Audi A4 / A6). I would not think minivan until 2 kids come along.
That being said, I had a Volvo V70 wagon with two kids, then a third in a car seat. It worked while small, but a minivan worked much better as they grew.

Great insight on everyone's part. As I said before - I am not trying to get rid of my TL just yet since I still love it and the wife loves it as well, plus it only has 70k miles on it. The Honda Accord on the other hand has over 150k and I can feel the transmission slipping and a little bit of oil leakage....so I had hoped to replace that with the coupe and keep the TL as the baby mover....but my wife seeing her friends lug around all this crap for the kid is not convinced that the TL has enough space for 1 kid.
Only reason I would get an SUV is when the parents come and visit I could move everyone around in one car (and my parents and her parents come quite often).
We made a compromise though - she said I should get a bigger car now (SUV or station wagon) and when time comes for the TL to go, I can get whatever car I want....so maybe I'll even look at the A5 or a fresh new G37 redesign at that time.

Some people will tell you to forget it and some will tell you to go for it. Go to a dealership and see how roomy the back is.
I drive a M3 coupe and have 2 car seats in the back at least once a week. The front seats slide forward and up which make it really easy to get the kids in/out.

One comment, coming from someone who just finished shopping with many of the same considerations; don't make the mistake of assuming that an SUV has all the room you need. SUV's, like sedans, come in many different flavours, and in most cases, are simply built off the chassis of a popular sedan. The Infinity EX35, for instance, (though a "crossover", not an SUV) has been criticized for lack of backseat room. You'll find with a number of SUV's and crossovers that once you get into them, there's less room in back than you think...especially some of the "third row" models.
I proper test drive, when you have kid(s) on the way, would involve installing the carseat...sometimes the the abundance or lack of room can surprise.

I had my CLs for 3 months after my son was born. It sucked. Not just for having to put the seat in and take it out but the passenger seat had to be almost all the way up. Also, if you're on a trip it is a pain in the ass when you have to feed or change them.
I traded in the CLs for a Pathfinder and an I35 sedan. Hated it but it was the best move.
For everyday use you do not need an SUV. But it was damn nice to have when we went on trips. Pack N Play, stroller and bags just can't fit well into a car.

Everyone's position and need is different; all other things being equal, I think the bargain you struck with your wife is the right decision. It's what I would do, and I'm one of the smartest guys I know. Sounds like your wife's pretty insightful as well.

Yeah - I am staying away from those Mini SUV/CUV like the EX35 or Q5's....if I am going to buy something big I might as well go all the way. If I wanted one of those small CUVs I would just stick with a sedan.

Q5 is a small SUV...but its not a mini.
CRV, EX35, Escape, etc...those are mini.
That said...a car seat (depending on make/model) can still still frontal leg room in a Q5, RX, X3, Edge, CX7, etc

I figured you weren't too tall. It's nice that you can fit those in your car, but for most it's not possible. Me being 6'3" and fat according to Rockstar12 it wouldn't be happening.
