B18c1

Well my project CRX's engine is nearing completion. I'll hopefully be putting money down on a JDM B18C1 swapped, including new wear n' tear parts (water pump, clutch, timing belt, spark plugs, etc.) It will set me back pretty much all of what I have worked for in the past year, but I am looking forward to increasing the 180 HP stock eventually.

Would any GS-R nuts tell me what they would recommend in terms of Headers, Intake, and any other good "bang for the buck" all motor-making power upgrades (intake manifolds, camshafts, etc).

The place where I am getting it done, Factory Five Motoring, specializes in CRXs and recommended a custom B-Series CRX Cold Air Intake, along with a very nicely done B18C5 Type-R intake manifold polished and bored out, but all that work would cost what its worth (500 for the intake man., 300 for the CAI).

Any help would be great, as I am very very excited that my plans are about to become reality (although I have terrible luck here, anytime I posted regarding a car I was interested in, it fell through ) Thanks.

Mike

I've been happy with DC headers and the AEM intake. I didnt do too much else to my motor when I was into the 4cyl cars.

I friend of mine has this in his GS-R and I barely beat him
Skunk 2 Cams
Type R manifold
DC Sports Headers
AEM CAi
Greddy Exhaust

In your CRX you should be able to really haul ass with any bolt ons.

180Hp 126Trq 10.6 Compression (JDM)
170Hp 121Trq 10.1 Compression (USDM)

that's it. and guys, thanks for the input. I'm really digging an all Comptech setup, but I'm going to need to haul ass in work, as $$ is the issue.

ALSO; is the LSD tranny really worth the extra money spent? From what many say, it's no.

and in terms of other performance add-ons, I have a CRX Si Greddy SP2 Catback and Skunk2 Short-shifter so I need not worry about those when and if I get the engine.

I may be the only one on here to tell you NOT to get the Type-R intake manifold. You will loose all of your bottom end torque--you will have HUGE balls on the top end, but getting there will be an adventure.....trust me.

Bang for the buck--get a CTR Intake cam and leave the stock exhaust cam alone. You should see about 7-10 HP just from the cam and the power is across the entire range. The cam should be about $300.

I had all Comptech stuff on my 99Si and it performed very well. I have worked with quite a few B-Series motors and like to think I know what works and what doesn't. The LSD tranny is worth it if you intend on going with forced induction...if not, you really wont need it until you are in the 275+whp range.

Sounds like you are going to have quite a nice set-up. Good Luck!!!

and with intake dont worry about brand name, they are all pretty much the same, i ran Greddy evo2 on my GSR and liked it, but for the price i would have gotten something else, like a N1 or something. Test pipe instead of the cat makes a huge difference...if you dont have emissions that is. Boost that puppy
