Auto Insurance - how's your service - not rate

I recently turned 25 and my policy renews in 2 weeks. I've got my renewal quote from GEICO and I'm happy with the price, but I decided to shop around and see what others have to offer. Allstate is the only one that comes close to the GEICO rate.

I've had my own policy with GEICO for a year, but no incidents, so I don't know how good their customer service is or when you have a claim if they don't want to give up the money...etc.

Before that I was on my parent's policy with Allstate and they've used them for over 30 years, had a few accidents/tickets and never had an issue with their service.

So how good is GEICO's service? Should I stay with them or go to Allstate? If you look online you'll find complaints for both companies so it doesn't really help. So basically which is the better company/who screws their customers more?

Every time I get a GEICO quote it is at least a few hundred dollars more than what I currently have (progressive). Although I have 2 tickets on my record from '04-'05 and I've heard that GEICO kills you without a clean record.

I think the key is to find an insurance company that you are happy with and stick with them. I have had State Farm for 14 years and no other company can beat their rates for me. It also helps that I have a multicar discount as well as homeowners insurance with them also.

I've never had to use my insurance co for anything since I was 17, so I guess I'll see when that time comes

State Farm. Have had them for 16 years. When I broke my neck and back they sent a maid service to my house to clean for me cuz they knew I couldn't. Might cost a little bit more but they have ALWAYS been there when I needed and expected them to.

Also, I work with insurance companies from time to time. We have gotten to the point that if you have Geico or Progressive will we not work with them for you. Allstate isn't as bad (they use to be great) but it seems like lately they have gone downhill. USAA, encompass and Hartford have all been good companies to work with. All in all, I would still reccommend State Farm for any and all coverages.

We had Geico but once I got my car we switched to allstate since its cheaper. No wrecks or anything since switching so I have no idea how there customer service is. Same thing with Geico. We just did allstate because its cheaper.

I have USAA. They're amazing. I can't imagine being with another company. We have them for insurance, wife's checking account, house insurance, and two car loans. They have the best service and best loan rates.

I hate Progressive, and especially State Farm.

Too bad they want to charge me like 1.5x what GEICO wants for the same coverage. I know they used to want to get out of NJ, maybe they still do so they inflate their rates for new quotes?

Nationwide. Had them under my parents and I kept all the discounts when I split off onto my own policy. Very easy to work with.

When I priced GEICO, they quoted me about $14/yr more than my current company.

I have Travelers, specifically First Trenton Indemn and have had them for nearly 10 years. I have never had any problems with them (duh!) and only wish they had better online services.

As an aside, I live in NJ and only pay $3,200 year for 4 cars:

2007 Accord V6 - full cov
2005 Murano SL - full cov
2000 Quest SE - liab
1998 Civic EX - liab

As someone who inherited privileges from his dad, I must say, USAA is by far the best on just about anything. We got preapproved for a home loan, and they gave us the lowest rates by far. Even the Lending Tree guy said that they had to be feeding us a line of crap...but I've dealt with USAA and they are a wonderful and honest company to work with.

I doubt that many other insurance companies actually give dividends back to their auto policy holders.

The GEICO folks have been pretty good to me. We had a hit and run on my gf's car and they claimed it against uninsured motorist insurance instead of comprehensive so the deductible was only $200 instead of the usual $500. Additionally, a week later, some pizza guy backs into the front of it trying to get into a parking space and the car was going to the body shop for the hit and run damage so they sent the adjuster the body shop and I got a check in the mail. Can't really complain as they have really done a great job so far.

I had someone with GEICO hit me, the guy kept saying it wasn't his fault after he didn't have to see me anymore. GEICO told him it was his fault and they paid.

I had Geico for a while. Really good service, the only reason I left was because I got a much cheaper rate with American Express (Now Ameriprise)

Last year I switched again because they wanted to charge me too much for another car on my policy, so I shopped around somemore. I got it down to AllState and Progressive. The Allstate people didn't even call me back when I was trying to BUY a policy, so thats all it took for me to discover their service sucks. I went with Progressive.

Out of the two in your poll, I'd go with Geico.

I have State Farm under my parents and the service has been great.

NJ Manufacturers is very good, but they are very picky about who they take on.

Only 2 insurance companies listed? Over 80% voted they use someone else. This poll sucks
