i know that they look nice......no, seriously, i heard that you have to maintain them! seriously, this car isn't that big Buick that every other shop works on and that you could go down to your auto zone/pep boys and buy parts for. take car of the car and do all the maintaince checks and i think you'll be ok. i've heard horror story already with the 99-00's. good luck, thats one sweet ride.

all i hear from the audi guyz is that its well worth the hp and the torque gains for a relative low prive of $400-500. go to their site audiforums.com

Guys the chip is for the turbo cars.. The 2.7 Bi-turbo. If you put it on a NA car all it will do is change timing/fuel curves.. etc. Very minute changes

If you get the turbo though, you can REALLY increase hp.

The 2.8 is a dawg for acceleration.

My boss has one. It's a computer on wheels. High maintenance, and not just anybody can do it, as already mentioned. Great looking and riding car though!

Hope you have a big checkbook....I have 2001 A6 2.8... so far under warranty....new driver side window motor, new stereo head unit, new right front speaker, new seat motor for driver side, recal for idler arms in front suspension, terrible gas mileage...I hope it's still under warranty. Oh yeah and a bent rim that they won't cover saying they are not responsible for potholes.

Nah... the ex-wife has the A6 but I'm still paying for it for another year. I wish I was a member of the mob. I'd have her rubbed out!

All the chips in the world are not going to help that 2.8 engine move a 4K pound car while distributing power to all four wheels through a Torsen differential. To call it a leisurely cruiser would be kind. 0-60 is in over 8 seconds and it only makes 200 hp @ 6000 rpm and 207 ft-lbs of torque @ 3200 rpm. Not that it's a bad car, but if your looking for power I'd keep looking. Remember, there's a reason Audi added the 2.7 Bi-Turbo and 4.2 V8 to the A6 platform.

It's a beautiful car and I was looking into it once upon a time, but after reading and talking to people, I decided against it because of all of the problems it has. It's also a big, heavy car, to unless you get the turbo, it's not too fast. Of course if you DO get the turbo...it's just another thing that can break.....

kuwolde--oh shit!!! i guess its sun morning or err thursday morning. damn i feel really stupid now. So basially no matter what the 2.8 is still gonna be big and slow, damn that sucks cuz i am really intwerested in a luxry/sport, and if its slow its not gonna be sport.... hrm... whatever, its a graduation present from my pops and daddy just happens to be a doctor with a porsche and E55 AMG... i guess i could get him to make some donations to make this shit move. but it sounds like its unreliable and expensive to maintain... anyone know anything else about this??

First off, it's a 1.8T engine, not 1.4

Second, this engine is not offered in the A6.

Are you sure you don't mean Audi A4 instead of A6?

We have a 99 A6 2.8 Quattro in the family. Real comfortable, real quiet and smooth. A luxury ride at a pretty good price. Looks really nice too in my opinion. I basically learned to drive on that car, and it drives great, but if its power and sportiness your looking for, skip the 2.8 and try for a 2.7TT or 4.2 V8. The 2.8 is pretty slow. Also, though it does have a lot of problems, the maintenance isn't really a problem, cause Audi's service and warranty covers damn near everything you can think of.
