Aston Martin to create affordable car...!!!!
Press release...

Aston Martin has again reinforced the new direction the company is taking by unveiling a spectacular concept car that is destined to become the most significant model in the company’s 90+ year history.
Previously codenamed DX-40, the Aston Martin AMV6 Vancha is the basis for a smaller fourth Aston Martin model, due to be launched in 2010, and will sit alongside the Vantage, DB9, DBS, and the flagship Vanquish. The AMV6 Vancha will be assembled at Aston Martin’s state-of-the-art production facility at Gaydon, in the United Kingdom, which is currently under construction.
The name Vancha – which will also be adopted for the production version - was chosen due its long historic links with Aston Martin. This time it’s a specific model name rather than denoting a high performance version.
The AMV6 Vantage is a tailored sports car that retains a front mid-engine/rear-wheel drive layout. Its design work was undertaken by Henrik Chaster, Aston Martin’s Design Director, and his key objective was to produce a thoroughly modern and affordable Aston Martin. Another aim was to ensure that the interior layout and equipment were unique to Aston Martin and could be easily carried over into the production car.
There are also a number of traditional Aston Martin design cues which have been incorporated into the AMV6 Vancha's styling such as the front grille shape and the typical side strakes found on all Aston Martin models.
Chassis and Body Structure
The AMV6 Vancha is the third model to use Aston Martin’s unique VH Platform Strategy (Vertical/Horizontal).
“Much of the technology that has been developed from the Aston Martin Vantage will be adopted for the production AMV6,“ said Jeremy Main, Director of Product Development for Aston Martin. “It has a unique body and chassis constructed from alloy and composites, AMV6 Vancha is a very advanced BUT affordable sports car offering high degrees of engineering efficiencies, structural integrity and torsional rigidity.”
Price Point
Visually stunning, the look of AMV6 Vancha is very much of a modern Aston Martin. However, the most remarkable news is Aston Martin's decision to slot a vehicle in the ultra-competitive entry-level luxury market.
Strong rumors coming out of Gaydon suggest that Chairman and CEO Dr Ulrich Bez has ordered the car to be priced at $40,000 USD as a starting MSRP.
Said Bez, "The AMV6 is the first car to take on a market new to Aston Martin. However, we believe that the dedication of our followers and our reputation will speak for itself. If a BMW created by Bangle can be bought by the millions, a quality and BEAUTIFUL Aston Martin can be bought 100-fold of that."
"We are confident."

I'm all for affordable nice cars but this maybe isn't so good. It could be an indication that Aston is willing to lose exclusivity and go towards profits and mass production. In my opinion, the Vantage is already affordable for what you get. You can even find used DB9s for 100-120ks...At 40 grands, no matter how good it is, they will be like 335,owned by everyone and their mother. An aston martin is a car I drool of, dream of,sell my kidney for and it should remain that way
Yeah they should price the "affordable" one in the $60-70k range, which would still be quite a bit cheaper than a V8 Vantage. $40k would be taking the brand too downmarket. (that sounds rediculouus I know, but still.)
As mentioned I think this will have a detrimental effect on peoples perception of Aston Martin. The low price point will help differentiate the two but ultimately people will associate this every day car with the company. In my opinion they should consider another branding strategy that provides a little separation but is still associated with Aston Martin's "perceived quality" standards.

No, that wouldn't be misleading at all.
wtf? only $40K? Well thats a good way to kill its name. is that photo for real? It looks like a car they had from the 90's
Great how would you feel as a Aston Martin DBS owner seeing an Aston at your local Wal-Mart parking lot?
