Anyone see the Z06-M3-Boxster S comparo on Motor Trend TV
Awesome test footage! Motor Trend usually has the quickest 0-60 and 1/4 mile tests of any mag and they showed how they do it in this episode. They managed a 4.6 0-60 in the new M3. They start at idle and increase the launch by 500 rpm every time. They also did the 1/4 mile in like 13.2 seconds in the M3 also. They ended up having to launch the Boxster at 4500 rpm to get a 5.4 0-60. If you get a chance to watch the show on Speedvision, do so!

yeah I caught the show last night.. lot nicer then car&driver tv, they wasted no time on some 1960 clunker and only talked about 1 suv.
it's still amazing that the M3 is an everyday driver that can seat 4 and still stay with the vette which is nothing more then an engine with seats..

Actually, a Vette is "much" more than an engine with seats....a loaded 1SC packaged Vette has Sport power Seats (electric lumbar), auto down windows, traction/active handling control, keyless entry with alarm, heads up display, electronic Dual zone A/C, memory drivers seat (remembers wheel, outside mirror), driver information center, power telescoping wheel, twilight sentinal, electrochromic mirrors...in dash CD is standard for 2002, you can get a 12 disc changer, high polished wheels, 2 different suspensions (F45, Z51), different tops if a coupe.
The only thing you can't get for a Vette (feature wise) are heated seats and Xenons.
Now, if you want an engine with seats- look no further than a Viper
Beltfed
01 CL-S
00 Viper GTS

Cost Drivers!!!!
Saw it and was VERY impressed by the Vette! After thinking about it i'm not sure why they chose those three cars? Not really in the same class ya know? One is a roadster, one is a muscle car and one is a high performance luxo-coupe. I found it kind of funny that they chose the M3 over the Vette. Vette beat the M3 in more catagories. They seemed to say that the M3 is more reasonable and that's why they chose it but I disagree because both cars are very close in fuel consumption. Nonetheless, I am VERY VERY impressed with the Vette. I was never a fan of the car but they said that the 2002 Z06 will be sub 4 in 0-60!!!!!!!

I agree. Saw the show and was kind of puzzled about seeing those 3 cars being tested together.
I don't agree with the M3 being selected at to top, guess that's why I don't pay too much attention to magazine tests. It's nice to be able to see the tests on TV versus just reading in a mag.
How sweet is the 2002 Z06 with 405 HP?

I too saw the show. It amazed me that they picked the M3 as best overall when the Corvette won all of the tests except one where it tied with the M3. But what else do you expect from a car mag but more kudos for BMW?

Hey, I like all these cars, but the Z06 won almost everything. It's great that the M3 has back seats and still delivers on performance, but that doesn't IMO make it the winner unless practicality was one of the test criteria. If I had added a criterion for picking the winner, it would have been "the driving experience", which is somewhat subjective, but bottom line that's what we all are really buying when we get a car. I wished they had talked more about that.
