Anyone with Nissan Knowledge..need a little help

A friend of mine has a 1996 Maxima GLE with the 3.0 V-6. He was recently in an accident, but car is now "fixed". Now since the accident the car is taking more than one attempt to start upon "cold start" (i.e. Stick key in ignition, turn, can hear it attempting to fire, but not) Upon the 3rd or 4th attempt at this, it will finally ignite.

Anyone know what he should have checked/what the culprit may be ?

I would rather ask here, than go jump onto the nissan forums.:P

It might be the Coolant Temperature Sensor, I had a 1996 Maxima and I had the same problem.

Sometimes after an accident, debri from an older cars gas tank gets dislodged. It may have caused blockage in the fuel line.

A fuel filter is atleast a cheap try.

Not positive, but I think fuel filter problems usually show up first at top end - cruising @ 80 or so - can't deliver enough fuel. engine craps out, slow down, alls well again.

If it's shown up after an accident can he take it to a Nissan dealer and have the insurance company eat the repair?

1996 model year Maximas had a problem with the fuel pump letting the fuel return to the tank. The valve would not close all the way. I had a 96 Maxima that wouldn't start after 1-2 hrs of sitting I think it was, and they had to replace the fuel pump. It was a known issue. The engine doesn't have fuel to start, so it will just crank till the fuel gets up to teh engine again.
