Anyone know about Nissan Xterra's?

It's time to replace my 93 explorer. The oil leak it's always had is now really bad & rust is starting on the roof.
Looking at 07-08 Nissan Xterra's because they have manual transmissions & that is what I want.
From what I've read the engine & drivetrains are very good. Other then that I don't know much.

Thanks

My sister and brother-in-law had one and loved its utility but disliked it's gas mileage. It was very reliable from what I remember though. I think there's a member here that has one that's modded it with a lift kit. Maybe he might be able to chime in.

All I know is, I love me a manual. I have ridden in the exact model you talk about. It was VERY truck like (could be a good or bad thing).

I had a Pathfinder, which I found to be much better than the Xterra (for my purposes).

These days I prefer a 100 series Land Cruiser.

But if manual is your requirement, I think your choices are limited.

I sold cars for Nissan for 5 years and the Xterra is a great offroad SUV very rugged. I had a lot of success with selling them customers love them. Your choices are limited though for sure

All I know about Xterras is they have a turning radius to be admired.

Out of curiousity, as a fellow owner of a 93 utility vehicle with a 5 speed, how many miles on the Exploder?

Not a lot. Just past 86K. I found it at 52K. Original mileage. I only use it 2 times/week if that. It's in great shape & runs well, it's just so old & leaks oil & the rust is starting.
Trying to find something that is newer. I can see some major things in the future with the Explorer.

Wife's brother had one and loved it minus the mileage, like everyone else said. He took it skiing and way off road to go fishing with no problems at all. I think he would have kept it forever but his fiancee pushed him to get a new grand cherokee but he loved it.

FWIW, I took a peek in the dealer auctions to see if I can find anything...I found 14 in total across the country in a stick, 11 between '00-'04, and only one '06, one '07, and a '12 model. Most have well over 100k miles, a few have between 80-90k, 90-100k, and the '12 has about 30k miles. PM me if you want me to help in any way...

Great cars...more or less the replacement for the Pathfinder, when the Pathfinder went to a larger 3 row car.

I did a search in SoCal 05-08....here are the only Manual I found:

http://palmsprings.craigslist.org/ct...1348.html]2006 nissan xterra

Not sure why its having an issue linking....06, RWD, Manual, 106K

I was working for Nissan NA at the time we had timing chain issues on these Xterras. '08 and older if I remember correctly had it the worst. Since then Nissan corrected it so if you're looking at some older ones listen at idle for chain whine or seek one out that has had the timing chains/tensioners corrected.

If your just looking for a second vehicle have you considered a jeep cherokee (not a grand, just a regular cherokee. There is virtually nothing expensive to break, most things are easy to fix and the 4.0 is a bit of a legendary motor for longevity (mine has about 268,000 miles and counting). There's thousands of them out there and 5 speeds aren't "needle in a haystack" vehicles.

Nope no towing, just dirt roads & grass & haul my things to the ranges & back.
Unfortunately a Jeep Cherokee with the 6 & a manual are hard to find in my area as well. And they are expensive for the condition I have seen the auto going for.
The Xterra was sold when I got to it still looking.
