anyone know

why a car wont start even after attempting to jump it

cause my ML today wouldnt start figured it was low battery cause the headlights wouldnt turn on and same with the radio, but after attempting to jump it the radio and headlights work now but it wont start

i hear the car ticking when i try to start it but it doesnt turn over

the battery may not hold a charge any longer, and jumping it just won't help.

Get a new battery and try it. If that doesnt work, try the alternator.

but more than likely, it's the battery.

well i called the mercedes roadside assistance, they were saying that the car i was using to jump it might not have had a strong enough battery because the ML uses a larger than normal one

they're sending someone over to jump it

Also, if you connect up the jumper cables properly (with negative cable going to a ground on the ML rather than to negative terminal), it takes longer for the battery to get enough juice from the other car (and hopefully its alternator, rather than the battery). Try turning off the truck's interior lights and all power accessories, let the other car run for a couple of minutes, and then try starting.

The reason to jump with negative to ground is to avoid possible explosive gases, which can occur on battery-to-battery. You will get a quicker start and more juice on battery-to-battery, assuming battery doesn't

There might be a general light switch somewhere (OK, on Honda Odysseys there is a switch that turns off all interior lights), but otherwise just close all doors, turn off everything electrical and that should be fine so that all amps go to the battery.

You don't need to tip.
G/L!

he tested the battery as well, and it couldve held a charge, but it wasnt. so we figured it was a faulty one

^Hopefully you said something like "I'd love to talk over dinner with you, but I've got someone coming over to look at the car tonight, maybe we can do dinner tomorrow night"
instead of
"I can't"

Anyway some UK group did a study and the BMW guys actually get the most action. Porsche guys got the least. Guess I should have bought an M3 instead of that troublesome Boxster I had.
