Anyone have experience with Autoflex?

Trying to get the JGC chrome deleted, but not sure if I want to vinyl, paint, or autoflex (plastidip version of real paint).

Has anyone had any experience with autoflex? Which option above would work better for my situation? Just trying to get it blacked out maybe a gloss black. Autoflex quote was $935. Seemed pricey, but not sure if I could get a better deal painted (seems like a lot of prep work)

I do not have direct experience with autoflex but my opinion is to vinyl wrap it instead. Especially in areas like the rocker panels, front bumper, and rear bumper that can be prone to rock chips and sand...etc. Vinyl wrap will be much more durable than either of the dips will and it will stay looking good longer. Also $935 is INSANE for the amount of work you are looking to do. Shop around if you really want to go that route. Here locally I got a quote for $1200 to do my whole car.

I mean if you're going to possibly pay $1000....I'd look into to seeing how much the blacktop/altitude parts would cost since they come blacked out/black chromestock in all those same places.

For plastidip it is normally cheap to do the whole car. Autoflex looks nearly identical to paint from what I've seen, and has more work involved so it normally cost $2k+ for a full vehicle. I'm going to get a quote tomorrow for vinyl, but, supposedly, from one of my jeep boards they say they're literally 25+ pieces to take apart and may end up costing a lot more. Autoflex they just need to mask most of the area.

I did some look around and it would cost roughly the same, and wouldn't work with every item I wanna do. I was going to do a 'SRT'/'Trackhawk' type conversion, but it would costly nearly 2k-3k to swap bumpers, paint, etc...

Then maybe I am underestimating how much pieces will need to be wrapped and looks like the autoflex will be a quicker and cheaper solution. But do still get a quote on the wrap and also shop around. That $1200 I mentioned earlier is for autoflex by the way.

I got quoted around $1200 to do my entire S2000 with AutoFlex. $935 is ridiculous

Find a good vinyl guy and call it a day. That just seems insane. I did my FJ in the late summer (roof trim, side doors, hood) for about $250 all in. The mirrors are Plasti Dip, the handles and gas door are carbon overlays, and the grille is just a new grill, but the old one was also black which I removed, painted, and reinstalled. From there you can probably find black badges on eBay and save yourself some coin

Can't see the hood in this pic but you get the idea...

Ouch. Maybe the guy is overpricing? He is the only 'authorized' autoflex installer in my area.

Yeah may go ahead and hit up a couple vinyl guys in town and see how it goes. Thanks!

It would appear to me that you are getting taken for a ride with that $935 quote. I thought maybe my $1200 was just a good price but it looks like I am not alone and that $1200 is the average for a whole car. But yeah totally get some vinyl quotes, it’s just so much more durable too.

Not sure where in town you are, but there's a shop up here in Spring on Rayford that seems to do good work.
Home

We were going to have them wrap our trailer with my wife's former business. Don't recall the amount, but it seemed reasonable.

Supposedly the guy who quoted me $935 for autoflex also quotes ~$1200 for a full vehicle for autoflex. He mentioned to me that it is more labor intensive for these parts than the whole car.

How so? When doing the whole car he would have to tape off the windows and wheels and trim...etc and obviously be using more materials. Yes he might have to tape a bit more/more tedious but I still feel it is unreasonable personally.

Yeah I wasn't sure, but imma go ahead and give it a shot. I got him to do all 4 wheels, all the chrome for $1000. Vinyl guy (multiple of them in Houston/San Antonio) wanted about $800 because of all the pieces. Powdercoating was about $450-500 so I'll save $300 this way although it isn't permanent (for the wheels). Paint woulda cost me about $1100. Worst thing I can always change it a year or so down the road, but, from the videos I've seen online, autoflex looks nicer than vinyl.
