anybody like the Yaris?

I'm looking to buy my mom a car...something small, good on the gas and reliable..any suggestions?

I'll be checking out the yaris today....and the Fit soon as well

fuel economy is the main concern, but the Fit does have nice cargo space so i'm leaning more towards the Fit.

I've been pricing them online and looking at the dealers inventory and so far both the Fit and Yaris sport models are @$16k with automatic...which is kinda pricey for wat u get, IMO

what do u guys think?

just don't like the Yaris, looks like a baby Rhino. The Camry looks like its father Rhino. I really like the Fit, and even the Versa.

For me, Honda Fit. At the autoshow, it barely beat the Versa overall in my opinion. I haven't driven either one, however.

It also is pretty bad on gas according to the latest issue of C&D (magazine). They averaged 28mpg in the Versa, 35 in the Fit, and 36 in the Yaris.

The Fit is also more versatile with its seating (magic seats), and was actually one of the fastest in their test:

Honda Fit Sport:
0-30mph: 2.7s
0-60mph: 8.7s
0-100mph: 31.1s
Lane Change: 71.4mph

Nissan Versa 1.8SL:
0-30mph: 2.8s
0-60mph: 9.4s
0-100mph: 30.7s
Lane Change: 62.4mph

Toyota Yaris S:
0-30mph: 2.8s
0-60mph: 8.9s
0-100mph: 30.8s
Lane Change: 64.4mph

The Versa with the bigger engine would be faster, but that's not everything and it would still handle worse. But the Fit Sport was the most expensive in the test at 15k. But it also had the most features. It's a toss-up. The Yaris is not a bad car. But I just like the interior of the Fit better.

Yaris is cool. I like the Fit better.

But I've really checked out the Fit. I saw the Yaris in England, and at the LA auto Show. Drove past a sedan at the dealer.

I like the yaris, I was just hoping it would be cheaper like sub 10k. I'd probably spend the little bit more for an xA or something expecially after seeing the pioneer/five axis xA (http://www.worldcarfans.com/tuners.c...r-by-five-axis), haha.

As for the fit, isn't it a lot more compared to the yaris? I think my uncle said he paid almost 16k OTD and it starts at like 14k for a fit. I know the yaris should be the cheapest of the bunch starting at like 12k, but i'm not sure about OTD price.

i'd find it hard paying almost the same price as a civic for a fit. even though it is a cool little hatch.

The Fit will be only 1 or 2 mpg below the Yaris.

I'd take the much better interior design and materials, cargo space and fun to drive characteristics over the Yaris. Also, the Fit has a comfortable ride.

Well you all have to admit it's a lot better than the Echo!
Still, the interiors are too ugly. I'd go with the Fit over the Yaris.

Take a look at the new Civic or the Hyundai Elantra.

The May(?) 06 issue of Car and Driver has a comparo of something like 7 of these compact cars. It's worth taking a look at if you need some info.
