Any Nissan Technicians Here?

I need to replace the rear wiper assembly on my 2004 Murano, and I can't seem to get the old one off. I googled for a solution and evidently you just remove the nut that holds the assembly on and wiggle the thing off.

Well, I've tried that and the damn thing won't budge one bit. I really don't want to have to take it to the dealer for what I though would be a simple fix. I posted for a solution over on a murano board, but figured I'd try here too.

I have a 2006, which should have the same design you are referring to. This is how I changed the rear wiper blade about 3 months ago:

1. Remove the cover over the central nut on the wiper arm, it's has to small plastic wings that clip it over the metal bracket. The plastic seems relatively strong, but be delicate when removing it, break this cover and you get to go to the dealer for a replacement. Remove the central nut. Note the location of the wiper arm prior to proceeding.

2. Pull entire wiper arm assembly off the actuator spline. It should remove with a little resistance, remember there is a spring meant to hold the wiper arm down on the glass. Be fairly gentle here, you don't want to break anything.

3. Once you get the entire arm off you will see that basically you twist the wiper blade past 100 degrees rotation off the wiper arm assembly. That's not a good description, but it will become readily apparent how to remove the wiper blade.

4. Reverse the assembly to put the wiper blade onto the wiper arm assembly.

5. BE VERY CAREFUL putting the assembly back onto the actuator spline. Put the entire assembly back onto the actuator spline, orient the wiper assembly as noted in step 1. It will be a bit more difficult to replace the wiper assembly as you will be fighting the resistance of the tensioning spring.

6. Tighten nut being careful not to overtighten, replace plastic cap - listen for a couple of clicks.

If everything was done correctly you should have a nice rear view wiper. Double check your work before driving, you wouldn't want to lose the wiper because the central spline nut is loose.

I had a fun expeirnece trying to replace my rear wiper on my 05. I went to O'reilly's to buy a kit, thinking it should be pretty easy to change. I told them what I had and their computer said they had a replacement kit, but it turned out what they had on their computer was wrong.

So I drove over to Nissan because neither I or the guy at
O'reilly's could figure out how to get the old wiper off, and I wanted to ask if the blade I just bought would work.

I was shocked but Nissan had a heck of a time trying to figure out how to remove the old blade assembly also, they spent what seemed like 30 minutes prying at it and they scrached up the old wiper pretty good. They even tried to break it off. One guy had a bright idea of popping off the cover the holds the entire wiper to the glass and behind the cover is what I believe a 10mm nut.

He removed the nut and then the entire wiper can be pulled off pretty easy. Then with the wiper off you rotate the wiper blade section and it should come off. Nissan said that the wiper I bought before would not work.

Happy that they had it removed I went inside to their parts guy and asked for a wiper, well as my luck would have it they didn't keep them in stock, plus they want 24 bucks for one.

I went back to O'reilly's took back the old blade assembly they sold me, and just purchased some refill blades, which work perfectly after you clip off one section in order to slide them into the Murano's blade attachment.

Sorry this probably won't be too much help with out pictures, but if the nissan brand replacement comes with instructions great! Please, could someone alse let me know where to get a nissan replacement for 11?

sorry man, don't want to be harsh, but for things that are complicated like that since you needed to ask if there are any nissan techs on here.

don't be cheap, just take it to a nissan dealer and get it fixed there!! at least you get piece of mind, that it will be fixed well and if you did fix it yourself you might make things worse.

They make wiper arm pullers that look like this

or like this

shouldn't be more than 5-10 bucks at Autozone or Napa. I use one when ever I do wiper arms otherwise I break something trying to work it off the motor.

Well, it worked!!! Thanks for the help!

Unfortunately, even though I provided parts.com my VIN number, it seems Nissan switched the mounting of the arm (wasn't apparent until I got the old one off, the underside is different) and parts.com sent the wrong arm.
