Any Mustang owners here? Need advice.

So i been toying with the idea to sell the BMW 635csi that i picked up. I would like something thats cheaper to mod and shows more gains.

Normally i would rather have a camaro but a notchback stang seems really sexy to me.

Heres the info
For sale yellow 1991 mustang notchback 302 with cold air, Mac headers and Mac off road x pipe 1 chamber flowmasters with dumps gt40 heads e303 cam, steeda tri ax short trow shifter. It has m/t et sreet radials in the rear 265/55/16 air pump eliminator bracket a/c eliminator bracket 4 inch cowl hood and more I can't think of at the moment. The car is a texas car and I am the 3rd owner car has never seen snow or salt has only been in this state for a little over 2 years, very stong car and motor not sure of times never had it to the track yet should have close to 300hp from all bolt ons. Asking $4200 or best offer car needs to go very soon the to make room for new mustang.
Anyone have a forum i can read up on about these cars? Price seems to high me... what you guys think?

I love the notch Fox platform Mustangs. Nearly bulletproof powertrains with plenty of aftermarket support. Parts, whether performance orientated or factory, are plentiful and cheap. I've owned a couple throughout the years and they've always been a tremendous amount of fun. Performance gains can be had with relatively few dollars. I'm not sure of the price, but it does include a few goodies. If you plan to buy one, make sure its 89' or newer so it will have the mass airflow sensor instead of speed density. Much more adaptable to modifications. Southernboy has built one or two as well, so hopefully he can offer some insight.

Audi A4 six speed.

Just kidding, I think they're great cars. I've mostly owned the performance domestic stuff, with the odd European from time to time. Being an old man, and growing up when the old warriors were relatively cheap, got me hooked. My Accord is my first Honda product however, and after two and half years of ownership I know it won't be my last.

I went to go look at it since its my buddys friend who is selling.

It needs work cosmetically since it was a repaint. It used to be red. The interior is pretty clean but theres no headunit. Would have to find one. Of course the front, trunk and rear bumper need painting. Me think this car isnt worth $4k at all, the guy did offer to trade me for the BMW e24 for his mustang.

The car drives like nothing im use to. It hauls major ass and basically made me shit my pants. Not sure if this type of car is for me... could i get use to it?

Trunk was open, thats why it looks misaligned.

I don't think that's worth 4,200. If you can get him down to a bit under 3K, that's a good buy.

You might be better off looking for something with better paint... but the fox body notchbacks are a very desireable mustang...

I also got laughed at trying to get use to the clutch

I totally stalled it 5 times in a row.

Should i offer him $3k or keep looking for one with better paint. Luckily i trust the guy since my good friend has been friends with him for years. So i know i wouldnt be screwed.

www.hondaswap.com is fantastic!

How about buying a 96 hatch and swapping in a JDM K20A2 . No but seriously, that is a rediculously fast combination. Good luck with the 5.slow though

Its not THAT bad looking, and paint may do wonders for it. Any other modifications besides those mentioned. Factory clutch? Differential? Don't worry about stalling it. Not too familiar with the cam mentioned, but it may have definitely moved the powerband up. Three grand for a toy might not be too bad if the rest of the car is straight. From the looks of it however, and the modifications mentioned, it may not be a real enjoyable driver. Looks like the beginnings of a fun track car though.

Keep in mind a good paint job and bodywork could run you $3-4K. If you buy it for $4K you'll be in to it $7K+. Just playing the devils advocate here because you could end up putting a lot into it and not being able to get your money back if you sell it.

Fun to drive if no one sees you. IMO it is ugly as sin, but I never liked the fox nothcbacks for their looks at all. New paint and it would look okay, I'd go black on that car.

I've owned a 1993 Mustang 5.0 GT convertible for awhile. SVTperformance.com/forums is a great forum. Older mustangs can be a fun car to drive and has a ton of mods out there you can toy around with.

I personally love Camaro SS, the latest model 1998~2002 versions but it's much more expensive than the older boxer mustangs where you can get them for less than $5000.

good luck

Gonna sound like a Ford fan boy here - How about an SHO or Thunderbird Supercoupe... both are equally quick, but definitely toned down from the Mustang... and the SHO is FWD, of course...

You won't be able to get a decent running car much faster than that one for ~ $4k.
Go for it.

BTW: what is an air pump eliminator bracket?

It's an emissions thing. Getting rid of it saves some weight and gains some HP, but its not street legal (technically) without it.

Thunderbirds SC's are tough to squeeze more then 300hp out of cheaply (M90 can only flow so much thru a 3.8 V6)... Jesal would be better off with a Mustang. Aftermarket support and a V8 are tough to beat...

My brother has been thinking about selling his:

Rebuilt engine, custom cams, custom pistons, etc etc...

That's a mighty fine SC there. 5-spd?

Anyways... yeah, for the price and "mod-ability" the Mustang is very hard to beat. I just threw out those 2 suggestions as a more sedate option, and something that can be driven daily if the need be.

Yeah, 5spd... I don't know what kinda clutch is in it, but I do know that it's heavy...

Jesal... what about an e30 ??

If you've looking for a cheap v8 powered coupe, then the mustang, camaro and firebird are probably your only options...

I thought about the E30 but like the E24, they are both too much like the "Audi". They are nothing fast but handle great. I do have a chance to pick up a 87 M6 for $5k but it needs more engine work than i want to spend on. I thought parts would be cheaper for an old bmw, but i was wrong.

My audi handles really well but isnt fast. I would like something to fill that void.

Think im going through a quarter-life crisis. Just call me nickypass

3K is a good price considering that the car has roughly 2K in mods. It needs paint and a new hood. That cowl hood is ugly!!!

The good thing is that Mustang parts are cheap and readily available.

^ yea i dont like the cowl hood unless there was a SC under it. He said i most likely can i just trade someone who wants it and take their OEM hood.

Either way the hood needs a repaint since the color is off.

Does the car have sub-frame connectors? If not, that's the first mod to do.

Dont think he mentioned anything about the brakes.

If it has upgraded brakes, he probably also did a 5 lug conversion. Let me know the list of mods and I can add up how much the car has in it roughly.

If that's your criteria -- something different than what you already have, and a car that you'll only use as your weekend car in nice weather -- why not consider a convertible or two-seater sports car? At least take advantage of the fact that you only plan on using it in nice weather. Just a thought.
