Any bike riders here own a R6...

...or have known anyone with an Yamaha R6?

Just curious, because I'm looking to sell my 01' F4i and get an '06 R6. I've read all of the hype and some negatives, but would like to know what are your experiences with the R6.

Thanks...

kr

A few of my friends have them.. They are solid bikes. Very good at type of agressive riding.
In this age of sportbikes, non of the Top 4 jap. brands produce a bad bike... i ride a 03 CBR600RR set up for track racing. im lokking into getting an R1 when my CBR becomes track only.

yeah, I'm actually looking at the 50th anniversary edition R6 right now. If the dealership accepts my offer I'll be getting it pretty soon.

I would love the R1 LE but I see used ones are still out of my price range. Plus the stock R6 is putting out about 114 at the wheel I think I'll be fine with that.

My 2003 R6 w/ Jardine race exhaust... loved it, but the wife and I were trying to have a child and wanted to get a new car, so I sold it.

Technically the 2007 R1 is a 998cc and their claiming 178hp at crank 155hp at the rear wheel.

I have never really understood the need for a liter bike. Any 600cc sport bike is putting out more power than can be fully used on the street as it is. What the fun in having a 180hp bike that you can only ride around at quarter throttle . Id much rather ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow and by no means is the R6 slow

Anyway back on topic the R6 is the bike of choice among my friends among which some are bike mechanics.

i own a 600RR have to stick with honda in terms or build quality and realiability. all the top jap bikes are good not gonna knock any of them performance wise. R6 tends to have better mid range and top end power. since you canme from an F4i why not a RR? you'll notice the RR its a slight but nice improvement performance wise over the F4i. If you go with the 07 model i hear nothing but good things about it(never ridden one tho). its lost significant weight since the 06 model and they upped the power slightly as well.

I like the 600RR, don't get me wrong, but not enough to buy one at the prices Honda asks for a new one. And if I get a used bike it is only going to be 1 year old and Hondas are still too expensive, used, at 1 year old. But yeah, the 07 RR is nice.

I thought that I'd always bleed red but the way they are making sportbikes now-a-days I think I can safely bleed another color with no regrets.

The 06 and 07 R6's are high rpm screamers, although not quite as high as Yamaha originally claimed. If you like riding around at 10k revs or higher it's a great bike. I'd get an 07 CBR600RR, it's an awesome bike. We're selling them for $8399.00 and no freight or prep BS. It's hard to beat the quality of a Honda and the new 600RR is incredible.

What are you trying to copy me....thats what I have now...'03 rr for the track and a '04 r1 for the street.

spdy0001 - being that I'm on my 3rd literbike (rode 3 600cc before that)...I can tell you that for ME (cant speak for other riders) having the R1 for the street is perfect. I'm not hunting for gears and a much more relaxed ride (I'm sittin more into the bike instead of on it). Don't get me wrong, that doesnt mean I ride it slow....ask the ppl I ride with...I love tossing the R1 around in twisties. The bike allows me to "point and shoot" so I can work on positioning and such.

knight rider - If I recall, you've done a couple trackdays? If thats the case, you will def appreciate the new r6 as its basically a track bike that streetable. A couple guys I ride with have them, and say how flickable the bike is. But as caball88 said you can't go wrong with any sportbike you choose nowadays.

Yeah, I love the track. I've read up on the R6 too. The only thing I didn't like about that bike is that it is impossible to get under the windscreen, even if you get a double bubble. That would suck for street riding.

Oh guys... They sold the bike I was going to get hours before I went to the dealership this afternoon

I really wanted that 50th Anniversary Edition R6. I don't really want any other paint scheme. If I was to deal with the low wind screen and low posture of that bike it would have to be AE paint scheme. That was my comprimise.

Now I am leaning toward a red ZX 6R (07). This bike is very comfortable to be a supersport (seat and posture). I haven't heard anything about the bike though.

Anyone here know anything about this bike?

Ya know the 600rr are like that also, which really annoys me when I am on the highway. Sucks that you missed out the anni R6.....the '07 zx-6r is a great bike, but I would go for the '06 636 for that nice powerband.

I didn't know that about the 600RR, but I guarantee you it is not lower than the 06-07 R6. The next time you are at the dealership sit on one...

Yeah when I saw that that bike was gone I was very dissapointed.

I was reading about the 636. My sales guy showed me a black 06 636 that just came in yesterday. I just don't want a black bike. I really lke that bike in that, like, electric blue though.

I also have a PCIII that I will be taking off of my F4i and mounting on my new bike after the break-in period. So I will be dialing in the the hp/torque curves the way I like them (as linear as possible).

the reviews i have read about it, say that the ZX6 (only 599cc now vs ^636cc motors) is a bike made for the track but very good on the street. It's also faster than the 636 model. I rode with alot of groups in the Dc metro area and with alot of poeple down here in FL. You really dont see alot of them. Thats one of the reasons I love them. Ron Burgandy in this forum bought an 04 or 05 zx6.. lets see if he responds
oh and that sucks about your missed chance.
good luck happy hunting

knight are you getting a bike for street of track? all the super sports can be tuned for track use but if you are planning on riding street a track setup bike is not going to be the best thing. i admit the windscreen on the RR is rather low and you really have to sit back to get yourself under there, but getting the double bubble does help.

It is going to be for the street (mostly). I wish I had the room to keep the F4i for a track bike, but I don't so...

The ZX R6 is not the best in class (but very respectable) so if I get it I will feel it out first and then set it up like my F4i later. [PCIII, K&N, Carbon fiber exhaust, high flow exhaust]

So I finally pulled the trigger. I've only put ~40 miles on it so far (all under 10,000 RPMs).

First impression

Pros:
bike looks great
nice response at about 8,500 RPMs
digital readout displaying current gear
lap timer
very comfortable seat and seating position

cons
stock exhaust sounds like crap
rear brakes could use another piston (seriously)
fairings could use some graphics

I would have taken a picture but my digicam batteries are dead, plus it is completely stock, so here is a picture of exactly what it looks like...
