with a limit of 5 grand you're pretty limited on a legend with less than 150k miles. but if miles dont matter then also look at a lexus sc300, it's a very nice car and similar to the legend coupe but it's more luxurious. for the price range though i'd go with a maxima. those are some great cars and they'll last you for a long time.

Check the Legend forums. They are prone to blown head gaskets. Low mileage Legends can be had if you keep looking, but people sell them for alot. I found a 94 GS with 108k for $7000. Still thinking of taking it, offering $6300 cash.

i had a 91 legend and the head gasket blew at 150,000miles, got another engine from a junkyard and the same shit happened.

You replaced the engine instead of just the head gasket?

legends share the engine with the first gen TL... and it is cheaper to just replace the engine than do a complete head gasket job...

I know my cousins ran one of there legends to 240K and sold it and apparently it still runs and I dont think it has had any major problems.

They now have another one I think at 160K and it runs really well.

well if your head gasket goes, you can easily spend up to 3k+... its the labor that kills you... since you really don't know how much damage is done to the head, you may end up spending more money to rebuild the head.... if you go on ebay, you can easily find legend engines for approx $800... and those are the type II engines with 230hp... so a swap will run u around the same amount for a repair job...

no there are no tranny problems in the legends.. their only known issues are the head gaskets... if you find one that has been taken care of, and the previous owner religously changed out all the fluids regularly (especially the coolant), you should be golden... ask if the car has ever overheated... there is a legend in Japan that is being used as a taxi... 500k miles and running strong... amazing..

i would stay away from the 95-99 Maxs as i have had too many friends with tranny issues, both AT and MT... no gripes about the accords or older lexus... i used to have an old ES250... it replaced the toyota cressida, and that car was reliable...

i actually have my eye on a GS300 i saw yest... its a 94 with 80k miles and he is asking $6500... but its really not in my budget to get another car right now ...

^^ i had an '92 sc300 AT for a couple months as a loaner from a family member until i found my acura. i love my car but i gotta tell you, if i had the choice between keeping the SC or the acura...i'd go with the SC. that was really a fun car, and the luxury inside it just blows my acura away, not to mention the speed of it would also leave my car in the dust.

My 93 Legend rolled over to 200k right before I sold it last year. I used to do neutral drops (stupid...I know) every day in that thing and I never had a single problem with it. Although +1 for the head gasket deal. I think mine were starting to go too.

+1 for the SC- bought my 95 at 126k, drove it to 160k with no problems except the radiator needed to be changed. The car was also wrecked pretty badly before i got it. My buddy also has a 95 es300.. and its a trooper too.

My daily beater is an '89 Acura Legend, the four door sedan. I can't bear to dump it since it runs so good and has plenty of space and is nice and heavy for highway cruising at 80+mph; I did put in some nice speakers to keep me entertained but that's it.

I usually hum her a few bars of "she was just 17, you know what I mean..." and she just keeps running.

id love to get a sc300 5speed but those cars are fetching premium prices where i live...close to ten grand in good condition

i see alot of sc400 that are in my budget, but almost all with high mileage or they've been ghettofied (cnady paint, 24inch rims, tacky shit)

im really feelin the legends, im gonna start looking around...maybe i can get a legend with a bad motor and just swap something in......a swap would run around 3k?? whats the best acura-legend forum

i think legend.org was the original legend forum

but http://www.acura-legend.com is probably the leader in legend forums, even though it's only like 5 years old now

Do not be weary of high mileage sc400's. That v8 is the same one used in the old LS and its virtually bulletproof. When I was on clublexus there were several members that had over 300k and running strong

I drove a '92 Legend LS sedan until it blew a head gasket at 213k miles. It wasn't worth the money to rebuild or replace the engine, so i got my '05 TL a month later. As much of an improvement the TL was, i still loved that Legend. It was a great car.
